This is one I'll have to bow to the collective knowledge of some of our fellow competitors. I've heard of KZG, but I haven't been able to date their products. All the information I can find on them so far is that they make great clubs. So, if anyone with information world like to chime in, I would appreciate it.

KZG is a quality component club sold by authorized dealers only. They are quality Kyoei forged. If he has the set I think he has they are forged 1 piece CBs and their design on those dates back to the 90s. Now if they are the ZO blades that basic design dates back to the 50s

I'm enjoying my Grinds.  Do the ones pictured have Apex shafts?  How about the Medallions?

Got the Grinds yesterday and they are beautiful. The Medallions look incredible as well but are 1/2” short so I need to throw some extensions in them before I play them.

I get that some people aren’t photographers but with cell phones you can take lots of pictures and post them free. Granted it looks like there are about 60 Clubs in the ad I am looking at containing possibly 3 complete sets plus lots of extras. But for $20 I guess I shouldn’t expect too much. Only drawback is no persimmons, but an iron set for $20 is cheaper than thrift store clubs.

Man, I think I might join in this challenge.  I have my grandfathers set of MacGregor Jack Nicholas Muirfield's (3-PW, D and 4w) that I "re-discovered" in my garage a couple months ago.  I've been wanting to play them just for the h*ll of it just to see.  This will give me a great excuse.   I just need to reset the hosel's back into place on a few of them

I "think" they are early to mid-70's era, and I don't think they are 20th Anniv editions that came out mid-eighties, so these will definitely make the cut.

I have no idea what I'm getting myself into , but it'll be fun!

Those are rather on the reasonably attractive side of the spectrum.  🙂

FWIW....  the Muirfields are from 1983 to 1986.  They're based off one of two forgings (Pro81 or Pro82, not remembering which is which at moment), with the muscleback milled into the head.  The other of the Pro81 vs Pro82 forgings are what became the Muirfield 20ths, which ran from 1987-1991 or so.  They were also used to create the Muirfield Customs.

edited to add:  found the info I was trying to pull from memory.  The Pro81 forging was used to create a prototype iron for Jack, that he used starting in 1981.  MacGregor then released the Jack Nicklaus Limited Edition from this same forging.  The Pro82 was a flatback forging.  They used that to create the Muirfield set that was released in 1983, which were essentially another version of the VIP's of the late 60s.  These were done by milling the muscle out of that flatback.

Jack having won the Masters in 86 with this Pro81 prototype, MacGregor decided to release the Muirfield 20ths, based on that Pro81 forging.  They named them to commemorate Jack's 20th major victory.

And there we go

Haven't been able to play for the last two weeks, thanks to seven inches of snow that fell on October 17th.  It's made me say bad words.

But.....   (Princess Bride reference coming).....   it seems my season was mostly dead.  We've gotten a reprieve in the weather, we'll be touching 60*F middle of next week.  I'm set to play Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday next week.

I've got a plan to test my recently acquired Original One next week, but I think I should make an attempt to also trot out the persimmons and give them a go, as a send-off to the season.  I have plenty of sets that meet requirements, just have to decide what to trot out.  Orlimar woods, Ram TW801, TW802, TW805...  Eye2 driver/3w...  and the irons, all kinds of fun.  And a load of Golden Rams, 1980 Tour Grinds, TW276, TW282, Vibration Matched...

I'll trot out my 8813 for this.  Unless my Snake Eyes Viper Tour heel shafted blade passes muster?  I'll also add one of my Golden Ram sand wedges for this, I think I have a Vibration Matched, a TW282, and a Frequency Matched (all pre-1995).

Don't have pics of most of the above, so I'll share my early season bag, when I was in persimmon mode.  These are a possible contender, 1-PW TW282, with a Ram fwy wood and TW805 driver, and a Louisville Smart Driver.

WOW NRJzyr, thanks for the history lesson.  The little bit of research I had done, led me to believe they were older, love that you were able to narrow down the spectrum for me.  So with what you've said, this would make these 20th Anniversary's then?

This explains the "newness" of them, if they are a early to mid-eighties run.  My Grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's the last 15-18 years of his life, and passed away in '98.  That means he got only a year or two worth of rounds thru them.

Well, I spent last night getting the hosel's pushed back down, as most had crept up about 1/4" - 1/2", and washed off the grips, which obviously are original, and in good shape.  Found my old Ping 69ftl putter and put in the bag.

Off to the driving range, can't wait!!

Your set are the 83-86 Muirfields.  The Muirfield 20ths have a flatter muscleback, compared to the arc that you see with your Muirfields or the VIP blades of the late 60s or 91-93.

Here's a link to the Ironfinder page for the 20ths, if you'd like to see the difference:  https://www.ironfinder.com/Individual-Irons/macgregor/nicklaus_muirfield_20th-87.htm

I also have a set of Muirfields, think they're rather lovely.  I just like Ram Tour Grinds a bit better, so I don't play the Macs as often.

The 20ths will be marked as 20ths--- Yours are like the VIPs which I prefer over the 20ths. Actually I have 3 sets of non 20ths as I call them for VIP back ups since VIPs in good shape are getting harder and more expensive to find

An added note about these...

The info I shared earlier was dug up by a gent who had sent a question to Clay Long, who had joined MacGregor around 1980.  He wasn't involved in the creation of these Pro81 and Pro82 forgings, but he was involved in the processes later (He's the guy behind the Response putter Jack used at the 86 Masters).

Clay was kind enough to answer, and went further, giving him the Full Monty background of both sets.

And our inquiring golf forumite was kind enough to share the response, earlier this year.  Obviously, it stuck with me a bit.  LOL

It's a sad day in the world of the Classic Bag Challenge.  I took my set to the range today, along with my players and worked thru the irons after I'd warmed up with a few dozen balls.  Did ok on the irons (my GOD do you get feed back on a "off" stroke 🥴) and went to my 4 wood.  Hit about 6 shots and heard a CRA_A_A_K_K   *%^&#$!!!!!!

1543617902_Cracked4wood.jpg.5b085d56bd05bfb9aaf1bccdd974e0dc.jpg

Sigh, this beauty is done for.  Grandfathers clubs...now a wall hanger.  I'll take it to my Club Fitter and see if he can work some magic and at least repair the crack.

I have another set of Woods that aren't near as pretty that I'll put in the bag, but this and the Driver will never see grass again.  😩😥
