Rickp 22,066
My old man actually knew Meyer lansky and Vincent Alo--- Met both of them when I was a kid and we were in Florida. My old man was not only a golf pro but a bookie as well and bookies always laid off action etc. They were introduced to me as Mr. Lansky and Mr Alo. I never knew anything about them until I got much older and both of them had passed. Never knew what business dealings my old man had with them. My old man I have to give him credit he did not want me to know anything on the gambling and bookie end of things. He kept me away from all of that. I can remember in the 80s one of the old man's cronies asked if I wanted to play a little Gin Rummy for $1 a point. I told him I did not know how to play--- He was shocked and said your old man was the best Gin player in the world and he never taught you? One of the other cronies said Naaw his old man kept him away from all of that. When he said that he looked at me and said and you are better off for it and do not start now. I was in my mid 20s at the time---- I did play a little poker in the Navy but never any high stakes card or dice games. My Old man had educated me on odds of all gambling including all the board games in Vegas. He was a math whiz. Now golf that was another matter he showed me all the ropes on golf hustling---- I remember the first Vegas trip playing golf ( had backers) I came home with about 10 K in my pocket. He asked me what I came back with and I told him. He said good you listened for once. He also said if you had not you would have been lucky to come back with 50 cents in your pocket. Now I will do like say a over under on a game for $10 or such or get on a $5 or $10 race pool board. Sometimes I get on a Super Bowl score pool shelling out 5 or 10. LOL one year I won $100 on a board and did not know who was even playing.Great story, thanks. I'm really hoping to have some of our northern friends join us this year. I've felt -17°F with -50°F wind chills. I'm sure that's no record for many, but it was still freakin' cold. Honestly, the wind in the killer. Once it gets down below about 20°F, cold is cold.
