No, didn't go into Corona much.  Elmont, Ozone Park, and Flushing Meadow Park in Flushing were my old haunts.

it’s still a great restaurant today, their homemade wine is outstanding.

but back in the day it was a big time wiseguy hangout.

he spent time in Florida and Vegas as well. it’s a complete long shot, but they definitely had some mutual (unsavory) acquaintances.

My old man actually knew Meyer lansky and Vincent Alo--- Met both of them when I was a kid and we were in Florida. My old man was not only a golf pro but a bookie as well and bookies always laid off action etc. They were introduced to me as Mr. Lansky and Mr Alo.  I never knew anything about them until I got much older and both of them had passed. Never knew what business dealings my old man had with them. My old man I have to give him credit he did not want me to know anything on the gambling and bookie end of things. He kept me away from all of that. I can remember in the 80s one of the old man's cronies asked if I wanted to play a little Gin Rummy for $1 a point. I told him I did not know how to play--- He was shocked and said your old man was the best Gin player in the world and he never taught you?  One of the other cronies said Naaw his old man kept him away from all of that. When he said that he looked at me and said and you are better off for it and do not start now. I was in my mid 20s at the time---- I did play a little poker in the Navy but never any high stakes card or dice games. My Old man had educated me on odds of all gambling including all the board games in Vegas. He was a math whiz. Now golf that was another matter he showed me all the ropes on golf hustling---- I remember the first Vegas trip playing golf ( had backers) I came home with about 10 K in my pocket. He asked me what I came back with and I told him. He said good you listened for once. He also said if you had not you would have been lucky to come back with 50 cents in your pocket. Now I will do like say a over under on a game for $10 or such or get on a $5 or $10 race pool board. Sometimes I get on a Super Bowl score pool shelling out 5 or 10. LOL one year I won $100 on a board and did not know who was even playing.

Great story, thanks.

It’s amazing the lives our parents/relatives have lead and unfortunately you don’t find out until after they’re gone.

I'm throwing in a TBD winning for the player sporting the best "most classic" attire.  Think plaid, think wool, think avocado green and rust orange. Photos on the course required 🙂.

I'd rock that in a heartbeat.  I will have to get in on this when the weather warms a bit. Today's high was 21° and tomorrow is looking like 27° so I'm gonna hold off for a bit before playing any clubs, much less vintage wooden woods and blades.

Hopefully it'll be warmer where you're at when we kick off the 2021 Challenge. Right now I'm looking at the end of May/ first of June. I'm really hoping to have some of our northern friends join us this year.

As far as attire goes, I've been eyeballing some knickers and argyle socks on Amazon.

I’d love to have some of those 70’s/80’s plaid or bright lime green pants.  I point them out to my wife when I see pictures.  After 40 years she still rolls her eyes at me 🤨

Minus 5 Fahrenheit as I type this, a bit before noon.

We hit single digits above zero yesterday, for the first time in several days, it was almost pleasant.

The people I truly feel sorry for are those in Northern MN, such as Ely.  As I was typing my previous post, I think it was -28F in Ely.  Ugh.

We're gonna have lows in the negatives next week.  Nowhere near the -28°F up there, but cold enough.  I've felt -17°F with -50°F wind chills.  I'm sure that's no record for many, but it was still freakin' cold.  Honestly, the wind in the killer.  Once it gets down below about 20°F, cold is cold.  Throw in some wind and it's just not right.

This is the best I can do.

Someone should plan a MGS get together with the plaid theme.

YES!  Now we’re talking!

My sister lives in Edmond so I’d have an excuse to be there for a plaid-only get together 😂
