Update. I started playing again last weekend.

Just concentrating on the swing basics.

My score is still pretty low.

The cooler weather & hunting\ football season has emptied the course.

 I'm enjoying it again.

My time in the golf forums has slowed, because I don't want to ( overdose) on golf.

Thanks for all the good words and replies.

Getting out there without a crowd can definitely help to make it more relaxing. Nothing more stressful than 4 some after 4 some on the tee boxes with big waiting times

Not sure how I missed this one but I agree with everyone. Take a break 😊

Been there, done that and bought the polo. I worked in golf from age 14 (caddy) to 26 and at the end, hated the thought of the game. I didn’t play until age 30 and in that time, completely forgot about the game.

Good news is, I fell back in love with playing; so much that I’m trying to compete again.

I’m glad to hear you’re back. Life in moderation. Play well 😊

I have been playing for 25 years.

Eat, sleep, watch, and read golf.

Play year round. Never go more than 3 days without picking up a club.

Yesterday, all of a sudden, I think I hate golf.

My Son is 17, and a fantastic golfer. High school team, medalist, local hero, etc.

For the past 3 weeks, my score has been dropping like crazy.

Went from shooting 45-46 per nine, to 40-41.

Hitting long straight drives, great wedges, and putting.

Just woke up yesterday, and don't like golf.

We went to the course, and the whole time was thinking I would rather be at work than here.

How do y'all deal with this?

Do others get this way, or have I lost the golf bug?

Thanks for the advice.

I am with you here but maybe not go back to work. I retired 18 months ago with a h/c of 9 and gave myself a target of getting to 5 before I turned 60. I was playing 4 or 5 times a week, with competitions twice a week. Well I made it to 5.4 at the end of October and now I feel it is a bit of a chore admittedly it is Winter in Scotland and the conditions are poor. Usually I would be perked up by going to the Canary Islands for 2 weeks in Nov and the 2 in Feb to play golf, but in COVID times this is not so easy. I was also due to be playing in Turkey in November but COVID put a stop to that.

For me I think I need to set myself some new targets for the new season which will hopefully give me the drive to get back out.

  • 3 weeks later...

My husband had a similar situation a few years ago - he found that taking a short break and trying a new hobby helped. He also found that what had happened was he didn't enjoy golfing on his own any more - he wanted someone to talk to. So he joined a new golf club and found regular golfing partners and that really helped.

I'm still very new to the golf world so haven't experienced it myself - but hope this helped a little!

Seems like a week or two off may help, but if you're son is playing and you're going anyway, try setting new goals! Break 80, even par on the front etc.  Or work on a new shot. I spend a lot of time working on being able to hit a desired ball flight on the course. On the range it's not an issue, but when you NEED that low draw or low fade to get under a tree limb it's harder! I quite like playing a few holes where I solely concentrate on that kind of execution.
