TexasFullSend Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Have any of y'all experimented with lead tape on your putters? If so what was your experience like. I cut my putter gradually from 35" to 34" to 33" but I want to add some lead tape to the bottom of the putter head. If y'all have any photos as well I am interested in your craftsmanship haha Driver: Taylormade Sim 2 Max 3 Wood: Callaway Epic Max Driving Iron: Titleist u510 Hybrid: Taylormade Gapr Irons: Taylormade P760 Wedges: Vokey Jet Black 52/56/60 Putter: Taylormade Spider X Ball: ProV1x
cnosil Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 Yes, I have used lead tape on putters. I have raised a putter from the 350 to over 400 gram range by adding lots of lead team; I have added a few strips to the bottom to bring the weight up about 10 grams, and I am going to be adding some to some odyssey weights to move them from 10 to 15 grams. My experience was that it brought the head to the weight i wanted; so I guess that is a good experience. NRJyzr Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 I've gone back and forth with my preferred putter weight. Tried a Golden Ram putter at its standard weight at 34", have found that my somewhat heavier Snake Eyes Viper Tour Sv1 is a better fit. I've also got an 8813 I've been using off and on, depending on when I want the sight line and when I don't, and added lead tape to the back of the flange. It seems a putter headweight something close to 340-350g is my putter happy place. The Viper Tour is actually a touch heavy, and right now, I'd say the 8813 is a bit light. Pics of my 8813, and a Spalding TPM-3 I also have taped up (sole) Driver: TM Original One 11.5* set to 11*, Aldila NV75 X, 43.5" -or- SpeedZone, HZRDUS Black 75 6.5, 43.5" 3w: Cobra King LTD, RIP Beta 90, 42" -or- Stage 2 Tour, NV105 X, 42.5" 2h or 3h: TaylorMade Stage 2 Tour, Aldila NV105 S -or- RIP Alpha 105 S Irons: 3-PW Mizuno MP37, Recoil Proto 125 F4 (reshaft in progress, slowly); 1i & 3-PW Golden Ram TW276, NV105 S; 2-PW Golden Ram TW282, RIP Tour 115 R GW: Dynacraft Dual Milled CNC 52*, Steelfiber 125 S; Scratch 8620 DS 53*, Steelfiber 125 S SW: Ram TG-898 56*, DGX ss2x; Ram Tom Watson 55*, DGX ss2x; Wilson Staff PMP 58*, DGS; PM Grind 19 58*, stock shaft Putter: Snake Eyes Viper Tour Sv1, 34"; Ping Scottsdale TR Craz-E, 35"; Cleveland Huntington Beach 1, 35" Ball: Wilson Staff Duo Professional, Bridgestone Tour B-RXS, Callaway Chrome Soft
txgolfjunkie Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 If you have a food scale...or any sort of scale that reads out in grams...it will be useful to determine how much lead tape you're putting on the putter. Usually for lead tape, 4" = 2g of weight = 1 swing weight point. So if you cut off two inches from your putter, that's probably 8-10 swing weight points...someone correct me if I'm wrong on that. You would need a considerable amount of lead tape to bring it back to the original swing weight. I've also seen folks put tungsten powder down the shaft and plug it to boost head weight, but with the caveat that you could shift the sweet spot closer to the heel of the putter. Be precise with how you apply your lead tape. If you put it haphazardly all over the putter, you could change the feel/. I read a lot into it before slapping lead tape on it haha What I ended up doing was just applying two 5in strips and practiced with it and then I added two more 5in strips. the putter feels a lot better now. I have more control of the head! Hopefully the feel isn’t just a honeymoon phase but I have favored heavier putts before. ballplayer002003 Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 I am a fan of lead tape. I used it on an old Scotty Cameron I have and loved the feel of it. I will say though, I love a heavy club.
