But I do from time to time throw a ProV down just for comparison, but all of my baseline results are from BXS. TR1PTIK
Another great report from Tony and another ball that I'm simply not that surprised about. I'd certainly love try left dash, but I don't think it would be a good fit for me at the moment. Definitely looking for a touch more spin on all clubs for the time being. Tarheelvolvo
So, this ball intrigues me a great deal. The review is glowing, and I've thought about switching. However I wonder if playing with a low spin ball in my setup would actually be detrimental. Off the tee I'm using G410 LST and trackman numbers pegged me about 2200 spin w/ swing speed of 112-117mph using a Wilson range ball. I normally play a Z-Star, so would switching tank my spin #'s too low? Is there such a thing as too low? I realize green side the left- might provide less control, but beyond that it gets a bit confusing. I really don't understand enough about the subject to speak intelligently about it, so any insights would be greatly appreciated! I realize green side the left- might provide less control, but beyond that it gets a bit confusing Definitely such a thing as too low! If the ball doesn't get enough spin, it'll just fall out of the sky. You'll strike a good one and it looks like the ball is coming back down before it even got to its peak height, which is costing you carry yards. Visually, I like my shots to look like they're just hanging on/drifting for a split second before they fall back down to earth. (I generally have the opposite problem where they balloon and just float out there forever.) Greenside, I think you'd actually be surprised, since greenside spin is mostly determined by the cover and not the core. TL;DR - a ball that's low-spin off the driver may still have enough greenside spin for your game if it has a thin urethane cover. Have you ever tried the Z Star XV? I love the XV and find the regular Z Star nearly unplayable for being too spinny. I do wonder if, before shelling out $50 for a ball you may hate, you might grab a sleeve of the AVXs and the regular ProV1x and see what you think. If the AVX is slightly lower-spinning than left dash and the regular V1x is slightly higher spinning and a touch softer than left dash, you might be able to triangulate if it's worth placing an order. (And just as an aside, it's really hard to make a judgment about your game using range balls.) goaliedad30
I've been playing this ball for a year, and it's really the perfect fit for me. I'm not really price sensitive, I'm performance sensitive. I wanted a lower spin ball, especially off the irons - with the ProV1, I had iron shots backing up 15-20 feet on greens. The Left Dash stops just about exactly where it lands for me, even on relatively firm greens. I get plenty of short game spin/control, and it flies high enough for me off the driver, and plenty long. I also find it very consistent from ball to ball, box to box - typical of my experience with Titleist. GregGarner
jwlong410
I've switched to this ball as a result of the study Tony did and I have no plans to switch back. I had bounced around playing ProV1s, ProV1xs, BXs and BXSs - I have a high swing speed (109-115) and am generally a high spin player so I know I need to be in a firmer ball, but value control on my short irons and wedges. So it's been a balancing act of trying to find the right fit for me game. The -ProV1x is the perfect fit for my game. With the spinny/high launch balls I would spin back 9 Irons and less up to 20 feet or more (pending green undulations obviously). With low launch/low spin balls I'd have trouble controlling distance and getting balls to react how I'd like them to. With the higher launch of the Left Dash I don't need as much spin to control my approaches into the green. Instead of spinning everything back I've gotten to more of a one hop & stop or one hop & spin back a few feet which is ideal (for me anyway). Anyway - really thrilled to be able to put this ball into play and I don't see any changes coming on that front. To that end - anyone want a fresh box of Bridgetone BXS (non-Tiger) balls?!
