upcoming driver fitting - shaft choices

after a few months of lessons, i’ve fixed my issue of delivering my club face extremely open with the driver. my drives go straight now, or straight-ish most of the time, and my coach and i feel like we’re at a good spot to go ahead and fit me into a driver. 

he’s let me take a few drivers home and demo them on the course and at the range. 

we started with the cobra king SZ 9* set to 8* and found that it 1. spun too much and 2. didn’t help my habit of delivering the face open, because lowering the loft opened the face slightly

the last couple of rounds i’ve played, i’ve been using a TM Sim 8* set to 8.5*. the extra half degree of loft closes the club head slightly and this head spins way less-so we’ve picked the head. 

the fitting is going to be all about the shaft. so far we’ve tested the hzrdus smoke black 70g in 6.5 flex and i’m currently demoing the Oban Kiyoshi tour limited 70g, TX stiff, which i like a lot better than the smoke black. 

i’d like to put this current setup against a few more shafts to see what will produce the best numbers. so far, i’m thinking Hzrdus Smoke green small batch 70g 6.5tx, and La Golf Trono 75tx.  

anyone have some other shaft recommendations in that same heavy, extra stiff category?

Chip, you may want to consider the Mitsubishi Diamana D Limited, or D+ Limited, as well as Fujikura Ventus.

I believe that these also are low launch, low spin shafts and should be close to the profile you may be looking for.

likely Ventus Black, its the low/low shaft in the Ventus line

The most talked about shaft right now is the Paderson Kinetixx Velocity....Loads a lot and delivers very square. I would give that a look.

good call Micah. i’ve got the Ck pro white 100g in my driving iron. its really smooth

i’ve got sessions scheduled with my coach for 11/27 and 12/8

since i just got my new irons in, the lessons on the 27th is gonna be going through the bag, getting some good numbers with my new clubs

on 12/8 we’re gonna throw a few different shafts in the 8* sim head and see what works best. 

Oban Kiyoshi tour limited 70g, TX stiff is the current gamer

were also testing:

Hzrdus Smoke green small batch 70g 6.5tx

La Golf Trono 75tx

Fujikura Ventus Black 7 and 8 in X flex

Diamana D+ 70 and 80 in TX
