Transition from “normal” diet to plant based vegan


Recommended Posts

Weekends I always enjoy having some sort of hash browns. Was usually corn beef, hash and eggs. Which is great and when thinks open back up around here I’ll probably head out once a month and get my fix.

but for now this is a fantastic alternative I have really enjoyed and gives me my fix. Hash with onion, mushroom, green pepper and broccoli

My wife and I aren’t sticky vegan, but we try to eat plant based diet and meatless for about 75% of our meals. Thai and Moroccan food have a lot of meatless options. We love going to Native Foods here in PDX.

Most sweets don’t have to much milk products or an thing like that but my wife made some sea salt caramel chocolates today (vegan). Used dates to make the caramel and they came out awesome.

im not a super sweet tooth but I love my dark chocolate and sea salt. Delicious and they will satisfy my need for sweets for a while

5 month update*
Have been basically going 50/50. My wife is still pretty much vegan though. We have some set meals we do like the chili Mac, gnocchi soup and a few others that are so damn good. Breakfast for me is pretty much vegan during the week, weekends I’ll have egg or something else but yogurts, creamer for coffee is all oat based still. Grilling is a lot of veggies which I love. Lunches I’ve been liking any starch with mixed veggies. White rice, mashed potatoes etc etc is easy and filling

weiggt I have maintained between 190-195 which I’m content with. Again if there is anything I have gotten from this is A) those few months were a fantastic cleanse and my body/gut just feel overall a lot better and B) my appetite is still extremely curbed

Had a new meal today wife whipped up. Was really good. Portobello mushrooms with balsamic vinegar and garlic baked. Just through it over pasta and broccoli. I love mushrooms so I really enjoyed it.

as it sits i am maintaining 190 lbs and still pretty much 50/50 during the week with non vegan meals. Still feel great and am happy to maintain a weight under 200. I am interested to see how my annual physical looks number wise on bloodwork in a few months

Was hankering for a sandwich today for dinner, tuna salad/chicken salad style. Found a recipe for a something that resembled those things texture wise and was actually very satisfying and filling 

chickpea/avocado mashed up with onion and throw some cucumber in. Will definitely add tomato and lettuce next time but this is a home run

Did a couple different meals this week. Big hit was “sausage” and peppers. Made a great roll, did some vegan Mayo and it was top notch. Highly recommend

You would be surprised. I loved it, I’m not a picky eater you know this but this is 1 guarantee I bring it somewhere no one would tell the difference. Actually not bad either lots of protein and potassium in them.

It's usually a texture thing for me... that looked like it would have a good texture to not be too weird.  and I do love me some peppers and onions.

I have been taking left overs lately for lunch and pan frying. Easy way to get a mish mosh of stuff together and empty the fridge.

Its super filling, I am not super picky either with food so might not be everyones cup of tea but.

Yesterday I did:

Brown rice, broccoli, mix of black beans and pinto beans and red pepper/onion/green pepper

Today was:

Broccoli, cauliflower, riced potatoes, beets and kidney beans

I know doesnt sound stellar together but its really pretty good. Plus pan fried cant go wrong

I'm enjoying your thread (just found it).  I think I could do some kind of 50% vegan type of thing and would like to explore that.  There's an AWESOME resource blog called https://cookieandkate.com/ She comes up with the most delicious recipies.  I'll link a couple of my favorite but the first one just has so much wonderful flavor.

This can even be made with tortilla chips if you, like me, live in a country that doesn't have real corn tortilla.

I went WFPB almost six years ago. In the first 4 years I dropped 105 lbs, was taken off my BP meds and statins. Your energy level should go up. If you lose swing speed it could be due to not exercising your muscles. 
My swing speed is the same before I lost all the weight. My handicap dropped from 23 to 16. I believe it is because I am more focused and don’t get tired at the end of the round. I walk my course in North Atlanta that is very hilly. 
For those that think this is unusual watch the movies the Game Changers (Netflix) and Eat to Live on YouTube. Good luck and look for your recipes on Pinterest and YouTube. 

Played golf for over 50 years until my health and business calendar reduced my time to less then 5 rounds a year. Then 4 years ago I retired, changed my diet and lifestyle, lost 100 pounds and got back on the course. Its been a struggle but things are getting better.

Yes I would say I’m some sort of 50/50 60/40 now. Have been for a while. Really just the steaks during the week or a pizza on Friday other than that pretty much vegan. I Definitely feel it if I do much more than 2-3 days a week in my stomach. 
most of my numbers dropped on my physical j had last week except triglycerides which is expected as it’s hereditary, will be working on that next.

Rice bowls have been great for lunch. Rice any beans ya want, corn, violife cheese, shredded lettuce and occasionally mix in peppers. (This one threw in spinach too)


Its easy, quick one pan and really filling.

Summer took away from me posting slot in here. A lot of the same meals. Grilled veggies, different stuff like that. But fall is here and it’s good crock pot stuff and a little more original stuff.

did vegan grilled cheese (violife is our choice brand) and a pretty hardy veggie soup. It was fantastic on a coop 48 degree and rainy day.

Wife and I have been doing this for a year and a half, definitely worth it. Get educated on nutrition and find out what you’re really eating.
