Testers ANNOUNCED: Top Flite Gamer Golf Balls

Recommended Posts

Brian from Salt Lake City, Utah

The last few months, I've been shifting back and forth between the Wilson Ultras (super cheap 2-piece) when I'm playing tighter courses and whatever better golf balls come on sale for when I'm playing more open courses or striking well. So in the last few months, I've had the opportunity to test and game Vice Pros, Callaway Chrome Softs, and Bridgestone E12s.

I've only had good experiences with Top Flite balls because they've always been one of the few brands that doesn't try to act like they're something they're not. They've always been super cheap effective balls that don't perform incredibly well but are good enough to get the job done. That's why I'm so interested with their branding decisions this year and whether there's any actual performance changes (though we all love the air-guitar on the XL Distance box and that Top Flite still isn't taking themselves TOO seriously).

Rag tag bag, but it does the job.

Taylormade R1 driver.

Ping G400 3 wood.

Cleveland Halo Launcher 3 hybrid.

Cleveland CBX launcher irons (5-PW).

Assorted wedges (48, 52, 58).

Odyssey White Hot Pro 2.0 putter.

Testers Wanted

The title of this testing opportunity already told you what ball is being tested.  But if it had been a blind test and we were to have listed the following aspects of this ball, how many would have guessed it was for a Top Flite Ball?

  • 3-piece construction blends feel, control and distance.
  • Dimple in Dimple Aerodynamics help maintain lift to generate maximum carry and distance
  • Soft, Ionomer cover provides elevated greenside control and improved touch
  • DuPont HPF mantle layer positioned between the core and cover reduces long game spin for accuracy
  • Larger, high-speed core construction optimizes lower compression for softer feel and ultimate distance off the tee
  • Combination of the re-engineered core, mantle layer and cover formulation elevates playability

Long gone are the days of being referred to as Top Rock.  The Top Flite Gamer is a surprisingly nice feeling ball with some real get up and go distance.   Don't take our word for it, we want you to test it and report back on it.

I was a long time user and proponent of the Topflite Gamer.  Have my one and only hole in one with a Gamer. Loved that ball! The urethane cover killed it... Would be really interested in testing the new version. Hopefully newer IS better this time around.

I have gamed the TF Gamers from time to time in years past. I was drawn to them because of the price and was just curious. I found past models to preform petty well. Maybe not to the highest of standards but good enough for most golfers. I found that the biggest flaw in the older models to be durability, the outer shell could damage and scuff very easily. Thanks

My wife bought me a case of Top Distance Balls and honestly I freaking loved them off the tee, would almost say that they felt better compared to other premium brands off the tee and I also liked the mid game as well but the short game just didn’t have enough spin for me and it was obvious. I’d drop the ball on the green where I normally would but it would release to the back of the green if I could get a little more spin on the short game I would switch over or at least use them normally to save money on certain rounds.

Tell us your past experiences with any Top Flite ball: I used to prize the XL 2000 whenever I found them as a youngster, gamed a Strata ball for my high school team when they were owned by top flite, all in all fond memories of learning how to play as an adolescent.

I last played with a Top Flite in the mid 90s in Winter, I think it was an XL ball; super hard, couldn't possibly cut the cover even if you thinned it with a 6 iron; it had zero feel and was shocking to putt with, more like hitting a brick with a piece of steel. I think the vast majority of these balls ended up in people's practice bags or out on the range, as they lasted a long time but were certainly not a competition ball.

Played with some TF Gamers I had found & thought they were pretty good. However, they were "found" balls, and age not certain. Would love to try the latest version fresh & see how they compare--possibly dispelling the old TF "Rock flite"image...

Tell us your past experiences with any Top Flite ball.

As a kid growing, Top Flite was the only ball ever used. Because of the price and because I wasn’t a good golfer then. Being considered a “value” option, it was a no doubter for me to use. As I’ve grown, I’ve got better at golf, not much, not much at all actually but I’ve gotten better. I came across a True Flite Gamer ball in my bag one day last week and it caught me eye with the double dimple look. Saw a review prior to that so I knew what it was and figured I’d give it a go. DAMN that ball is good. I can’t deny that, it played so well on the hole I used it for. Had really good feel off the club and good roll. Before hitting a 7i fat and losing the ball to the turtles at Hermann Park Course. I’d love to give it a try and see it compete with the TruFeel (which I use now) and also compared to cheaper balls like the Taylormade Distance which I use for more difficult courses that I may lose a ball.

As always, take care.
