Thin2win
Hello all, time for another unofficial review. This time, I'll be looking at the Cobra King Utility. I added this club to my bag after a tumultuous relationship with a Callaway Maverick hybrid. ShotScope was nice enough to tell me that my hybrid was the least accurate club in my bag, both for proximity to pin on approach, and percentages of fairways hit of the tee.... So I stared looking for a replacement. My home course has a very narrow front 9 that is also very short. So finding a club that I could hit ~220y and find a fairway was pretty important for scoring. I went to the local golf store and got a few different utilities /hybrids of the ranks and hit the simulator. I won't bore you with the details, but for me this club was the alpha and omega of the testing pool. I got it @ 19.5, turned up to 21.5 with the catalyst shaft. The club sets up really nicely behind the ball. Really nice at address. And overall is a really good looking club. I've now been gaming this club since early August and I can safely say it is a much better match to my game than any hybrid I've tried to date. I'm not going to say this is longer than my hybrid, because that is really not a straight comparison. The hybrid was 24* of loft while I'm playing this at 21.5*. But I am hitting more fairways and hitting it further. It is also incredibly versatile; low punchouts, deep rough, and fairway sand traps it handles with ease. Much better than I do. Obviously, I'm an amateur golfer and this club isn't a silver bullet that will fix all my swing issues or yours. But if you are looking for a utility, you need to give this a swing. It is the best club I've found to use as a driving iron /utility chub. Looks : 10/10 Sound /feel : 10/10 Workability 5/10. Hitting it high or low, no problem. But this is the only club in my bag that I just can't work left to right. Which is fine, it hits pretty consistent 5y draws which I can live with. What would I change? I can't come up with anything. Any issues I have with it are purely user error. Any semi decent swing and this club really performs. My weekly playing partner has hit this off the tee a number of times and is always impressed. Until again, be safe. fixyurdivot, toehold57, Vegan_Golfer_PNW and 1 other 4 Quote WITB: Driver: SIM2 Max 12° - Accra TZ6 M4 FW Wood: Gen5 0311 7w Fujikura Motore X F3 Irons: ZX7 PW-7i, ZX5 6i-5i Wedges: Zipcore 50°, 58° Putter: MySpider X Cart: Onewheel XR+ Ball: Z-Star Diamond/ Z-Star XV

The adjustability of this seems awesome. You still getting along well with it? Yes, yes I am. It continues to do everything I need it to do. We have been having incredibly high winds for the last month, the only couple times I have gotten out to play there has been sustained 30+ mph winds. Being able to keep this low has been huge and great at keeping the ball in play. My last round I was looking at a long 2nd shot on a par 5, ~230y. With that wind slightly into me and mostly going R->L I decided to hit two shots, one with this and one with my 5w. I knew getting the green wasn't an option with the wind. I hit the 5w first, probably the most pure shot I have hit with it all year... then I watched it climb, climb, climb and go left, left and then left some more. I only got 190y out of it and the wind moved it about 60y from the line it started on. Then I hit the Cobra, it stayed low and punched through the wind so much better. It got me 200y, and caught a fairway bunker just on the left side. It ended up about 15y from its start line. So, further and straighter in the wind. I will add, that my only gripe with it compared to a hybrid or wood, is exactly what you would expect. It isn't the best club for landing a ball on the green, for me it comes in hot. That said, I use it off the tee 90% of the time and only go at a green with it on rare occasion, so that doesn't bother me too much. But worth noting. I can't hit hybrids worth a dang so having this and then if i need it to attack greens, just weaken the loft and use it to the green. TXG had a good review showing Matt getting 2000 RPM more spin weakening the loft and stopping it on their sim green way easier.
