Custom builds taking longer than usual

Placed an order for a custom set of mizuno 921 hot metal irons. Placed the order in November 11th, fitter told me it could be upwards of 2 weeks. Called this week to talk to a store rep, no info. Called mizuno on a whim only to find out it could be another 2 week with the possibility of 2 months. Meaning I would have ordered in early November and not received my clubs until February. Anyone else having issues with receiving orders or longer wait times. I understand COVID has had its effects but to not have any solid info for a large OEM is a head scratcher

I think there are a ton of components that are behind schedule. That being said, times are so much slower than in the past. I hope they speed up soon.

That’s insane. I couldn’t imagine waiting that long. At least they told you up front...

If a large portion of the work force has returned, what is taking so long? Or is the demand that much higher for new clubs that they can’t catch up

I think it is a matter of components not getting stocked quick enough. For instance my tsi3 is delayed because I wanted a z grip. If I had known I would have just gone stock. My t100s were delayed for my PW requesting project x 6.5 which was not in stock so I requested it match my irons with project x 7.0.

My dad ordered g710 irons and it took two and a half months because they didn’t have all the heads in stock. I think overall there have been delays for getting new stock in.

In the case of the i210's, the issue was the heads, not the shafts I was interested in.  Of course, other shafts may be unavailable.

Crazy to fathom. I suppose golf clubs and boats are at an all time demand.

I suppose I’ll think about them as a present from sant clause lol

I would have an easier time if I at least knew what they were waiting for.

All parts of the supply chain were hit pretty hard. So the big companies were hit, but so were the small companies that supply them components.

Additionally I have heard with golf being pretty much the only game in town sales this year have been crazy. So that combined with the fact most club manufacturers started producing clubs in a massive production hole has led to extended lead times.

Yup, Had my ping g410 3 wood face cave in. Sent it back for repair and they replaced it. Took about 6-8 weeks. I was told they had a huge backlog as well as they had delays getting the shaft.

I also changed shafts on my irons this year and it took about 2 weeks as they had issues getting the PX 6.0 shafts. Took about 2 weeks for the shafts to come in

Things were definitely affected more than I would have thought. But at least where I live we are getting 2 feet of snow so I’m not missing much right now

  • 2 weeks later...

I just did a custom order on the HMPs, and they're on backorder until 1/7, so the fitter told me that as long as that doesn't get delayed further for some reason, I'll likely have them in hand around the end of January/early February - so around 8-10 weeks from order date.

The good news is that since I'm exchanging my Callaway Mavriks under the 90-day playability guarantee, I can hand on to the Callaway's until the HMPs come in. So between that, and not really being able to play a lot right now, I'm not missing out on much, since I can still use the Callaway for whatever I need in the meantime.

According to the fitter, pretty much everything is taking 4+ weeks at the moment, and some are way worse (see: Ping).
