The TXG guys were expressing a bit of concern; apparently, Rahm isn't an equipment tinkerer (he's kept the same driver shaft for years), and so they're wondering how a full bag swap might affect a guy who was world number 1 this season. Any other news on pros changing gear this offseason? Rahm’s 750’s could be closely replicated with an XForged but is it out of the realm of possibility that they do a complete mock of his current irons and stamp Callaway on the back? Ill be honest I don’t follow Jon that much to guess where he’d struggle with a new bag. Irons are a lot easier to mimick. On the other hand, the aesthetics of a TM v Mavrik are near opposite ends of the spectrum. Probably, though my understanding is that Callaway (perhaps more than any other OEM) has a variety short-run, Tour-only balls for its guys. (Because the ChromeSoft is slow.) The ball is what broke the relationship between Sergio and Callaway. The Callaway ball didn’t work for Sergio and he wasn’t going to play it under contract and went back to TM ball for awhile. Rahm did switch to TM ball after a testing session and even with the wind performed better for him than Titleist. I'm sure Callaway can come up with something on the secret tour only truck for Rahm or any player if he makes that move, but that's where seemingly everyone finds that struggle. I remember Bubba being out in the wilderness with Volvik, Sergio complaining about the Callaway ball. Imagine being so shortsighted in the grand scheme by holding a 14 club contract hostage by a ball. Margins are slim and honestly, does the average consumer even know or care about the ball? Every Sunday we’ll see a Callaway Staff bag with Rahm’s name and that will do more for their brand regardless of what ball he plays. If I were Callaway I’d say play whatever ball you want if it means you’re swinging our clubs. Rickie is living the happy married life plus making some swing adjustments again. Rickies swing requires lots of things to go well and if he’s just a little off he affects everything. Unfortunately for him he’s also found some struggles on the green which was usually his saving grace. When you are trying to gain market share and take down the top ball in golf yes having pros play your ball as agreed to under the contract is necessary especially with all issues they had with the ball exposed by mgs and the roll out of the updated ball delayed by manufacturing issues then covid. The ball is the one thing many pros dont change that often. It’s part of Rory’s struggles when he was switching companies. It’s why you don’t see titleist or other companies indicating which model year a player has. I didn't like the Mavrik line when it first arrived, but now I prefer it to the looks of the SIM . This has the smell of Sergio to Callaway on it. I happen to be a Sergio fan and as someone who enjoys golf and seeing what players decide to stay contract free or take some guaranteed cash is an interesting aspect in today’s game especially as the equipment contract world changes.
