No More ProV1's

Choose whatever scenario you wish as cause for a world suddenly void of the vaunted ProV1 and ProV1x balls - your preferred ball.  Now, forced to choose a replacement, which ball would you put into play?  Wouldn't it be fun to hear what the touring pro players would choose... were it based purely on performance.

I just switched to left dash X  a few months ago and was playing Bridgestone BXS before.  BXS is a great ball but I think I would move to BX.  It is supposed to be lower spinning than BXS, I don't need the spin and I like a firmer golf ball.  Plus who wouldn't want a touch of ball speed from the firmer golf ball.

Bridgestone tour B XS. 

As a junior golfer many moons ago I always found myself sticking with the Pro V1 and V1x, at times I was using the Callaway HEX. When I got back into the game a little over a year ago and was paying for my own golf balls, I tried the BXS due to the great price and reviews I read at the time. I compared it to the new Pro V1 line and ended up playing the Tour B XS ball all year and couldn't be happier.

Seeing what the Pro's would choose is very interesting, and in this scenario with no Pro V there may not be Snell. I bet it would be Taylormade or Srixon for the pros, and I would say for me it would probably be Srixon.

Probably the Srixon Z Star.  I like marshmallow golf balls.

Snell MTB Black or X would probably be my 1st choice. 

If I had to go with a major manufacturer I would probably have to narrow it down from the Taylormade, Bridgestone and Srixon balls

Seed 001 - which is one of the ball I play anyway. Tis the closet ball I have found to a Pro V and is 2/3 the price.

I would guess the non Taylormade sponsored Pros would go Bridgestone.

If money no object then TP5. but I like a good deal so I will stick with my z star xv when Father’s Day is 2 for 40 no tax.

The Bridgestone Tour BXS.  If you haven't tried it, don't unless you're willing to switch to it from whatever you game!

I have heard some say it's too spinny for them, but all in all it's a great ball...I kicked my Pro V1 habit for good with them.

Already switched to the Z-Star! But I want to try the XV and the Snell MTB-X in the spring.

I would play Maxfli tour x or Bridgestone tour B rs or tp5x pixel .. these are the three balls I have in my inventory right now .. this season was the season to try new stuff

I think the 'what would the pros play' is an interesting question considering how many choose to play Titleist off-contract, but the other wrinkle to that story would be, "how many of them played Titleist growing up because that's what was given to them?" In both high school and college, we were given Titleists for tournaments. (Professional 90s in high school, ProV1 in college, for those wondering exactly how old I am) - if all of your junior and collegiate success is built around the prestige of a single brand and you don't have any contract offers to play something different, why not stick with what you know for your game?

Personally, as soon as I lost my Titleists from the tournament, I was back to playing whatever I could afford or find. Even today where the phrase "disposable income" isn't a pipe dream, the only way I'm playing a Titleist is if I find it.

Tour level performance for under $40 a dozen? Snell & the Z-Star BOGOs fit this bill.

I’ve played nothing but Snell MTB’s for about 4 years. I buy myself a dozen Pro V1’s on sale every year or so, but I’d never buy them regularly. Pro V1’s don’t perform better than Snell MTB’s IME, they’re reportedly a little more consistent (manufacturing quality control) - but my game can’t pick up that benefit...

After decades of steady Titleist use...from the 70's Pro Traj 90's & 100's to the present day ProV's, and various experiments with others through the years, I am now a Snell convert.  I just got 5 dozen to last us through 2021.

I know I mentioned a preference earlier in the thread about what ball I would go to. But I will qualify that by stating, that would be if I had to pay for them. Truth be told I have purchased about two boxes of balls over the last 10 years.

I am in a lot of charity events and I am always given sleeves of balls in gift packs, winning boxes from on course contests, raffle prize and such. I even had a major golf ball company donate a crate of 500 top of the line logo over run balls for a tournament I was running. I gave all the players two sleeves in their welcome bag and still had left overs (not enough to give everybody an extra sleeve) So I had some from that. I still have two brand new unopen boxes of TaylorMade Penta golf balls in my inventory and they came out around 2016. 

Many times I will get balls that I wouldn't put into play so I will give them away to newer golfers. I just gave away three dozen last week to someone who is starting to get into golf.  We order 24 dozen a year for my company that we use to give away to our customers when we go to events. Although I have full access to them I don't play that particular ball and don't want to be accused of playing company balls because they were free to me. 

So I usually play something from my inventory. I probably still have over 10 boxes laying around and twice as many sleeves of balls. To me as long as it is a decent ball I'll give it a try. If I don't like it then I give them away as well. I don't lose balls very often and can play the same ball for several rounds ( Having no water on my course helps). One scuff and I deem it unfit for play. Then it goes into the shag bucket.

 For serious golf matches, then I have a preference to the ball I'll play. 

So no haters out there... I do give away a lot, I'm just fortunate to get balls often.

But I'll play along, i would play the Z Star and RX for a couple rounds each, then pick 1 and stick with it.

On a funny side note.   Yesterday I played in a scramble that was raising funds for a local Head Pro and his fight with cancer.

I pulled up to the Bag Drop and as I was getting out I heard a voice say, "Who's this showing up with ProV license Plate" 

Oh yeah, of course it's Robert!!  What a shock!

I turned and it was the TM and Bridgestone Reps standing next to each other.   Yikes    Busted...LOL

Fortunately both of them had seen it before and are really good guys and always enjoy giving me a hard time.

Note: And yes before anyone comments, the plate was renewed in September and is legal

was "1X" taken and you had to use "X1" ?

Yeah, I spent about 30 minutes on line trying  about 10 variations of it.  This was the best I could get.  When our actual Titleist rep saw it for the first time...He is the one that has ProV1 (and has had for about 15 years) we laughed about it as he went through the same thing for his 2nd car trying to find one that wasn't taken.

But also you could look at it as   PROVX for the ball and 1 as the play number   The spacing was weird online as well as I couldn't do  PROV X1 it had to be PROV X1
