Removing Excess Epoxy

Whilst putting putter heads into the shafts, I may have used a little bit too much epoxy. As they set/dried overnight, there's been some overflow (see attached pics).

Also - any tips on how to avoid this happening?

2 things:

I would a hyde type knife to flick the glue off. Dont scrape get just under it then flick it. 

2nd is that really a putter shaft into a putter at that angle? i appears that its 2 pieces that a butt glued together. 

Driver - 44.5" 5.0 flex 10.5 deg Graphite Design XC 6S GP MCC4+ 1 deg closed

Irons - 5-pw, GW stnd length 5.0 flex same grip 1 deg flat. Type low medium offset cavity back, no diggers

Wedges - 56 and 60 tour grind wedge spinner and mcc4+ grip 2 flat 10 and 8 in bounce

Putter - Makefield VS LH

Ball - truvis

Carried in a Sun Mountain C-130 USA bag - BE PROUD.

HC - LH but 85 is a good number, playing in Ohio.

First of all, remember to wipe the joint with paper toweling as soon as the shaft is installed on the head. I use alcohol on the towel to get it all. With that over hostel shaft, I would let it cure head up to avoid the dripping you see.

With dried epoxy, I will gently heat it with a heat gun to soften it before CAREFULLY scraping up the shaft. I would run a sharp blade around the joint to separate the epoxy portions as well.

In your picture, the putter head is shown above and to the right?

This would be a "shaft over hosel" install. 

So the stem of the putter head goes inside of the putter shaft, so if one applies glue and stands up the putter in the playing position for the epoxy to set, the glue will flow down and seep out.

Here a video, looks he did is not use much glue and he used some powder called "quick center".  A quick-set epoxy would help as well, this would help prevent the glue from running out.

 

As far as getting rid of the excess dried glue, solvents like acetone, naptha.   Also, dentist hygentist tools work great to pick, scrape, pieces of glue off.   

However you attack it, remember that patience is a virtue.
