Old gems in the cupboard

I went through my long-abandoned old clubs in the garage today (too old to bother about selling, but in decent nick), and hit them on the launch monitor indoors - most had earned their place in the discard pile (change in swing, faster speed now, better tech etc) - an old cobra 3 wood, a nickent hybrid, an orlimar trimetal fairway - but one club blew me away... First swing with an old taylormade rescue mid 19 deg (early 2000's - can't remember exactly) and it launched high, straight and long. It repeatedly went straight, high and the right distance to fit a gap in my bag (the awkward 220-ish carry). Can't wait to get it out on the course and see if it sticks.

Anyone else discovered an old favourite and restored it to the bag?

A couple of years ago, I started hitting what I call "gear fatigue" with respect to golf clubs.  The newer toys don't hold the allure for me that they once did.  At the same time, I started waxing nostalgic about the clubs I'd used a couple decades prior.

For a lot of guys, that usually means pulling out the lumber, persimmons and laminates.  For me, it's a little different, because I'd only started playing late in 1998.  I find myself thinking about sub-300cc titanium drivers, or smaller yet stainless steel drivers.  Took a few out to the course, a Golfsmith XPC Tour Steel, a Dynacraft 275cc Ti clubhead, that sort of thing.

In my case, it's not so much performance that I'm interested in, but the amount of fun I'd have hitting them.  They're shorter on average than modern sticks, for obvious reasons, but I found I was enjoying playing them at least as much as my 440cc+ clubheads.

Might have directly led to my buying an Original One late this season.

I found myself reminiscing in a similar way - I started playing in the mid-80s, and always wanted a set of Wilson Staff irons (they were the prettiest things around back then - the size of butter knives, and you could cut your finger on the topline, but so shiny!). I found a few sets on ebay for about $150, and am sorely tempted to finally get a set, just for fun as you mentioned.

Revisiting the idea of old gems....

Couple weeks ago, picked up a Cobra Deep Face on the fleabay.  It was head only, and appears to be in rather lovely cosmetic condition, compared with many woods of that vintage (my J's Professional Weapon 3w came with a sky mark, for example).

Looking forward to taking it on course in 21....

There is always the old standby Titleist 905S and 905T that are sitting in a spare club bag in my garage.  Both have been upgraded to Graphite Design Tour AD DI 6S shafts (my go to shaft).  They may be 5-10 yards shorter than my current M3 440 cc gamer but are really reliable clubs.  Problem is the M3 has been performing excellently that I can't justify taking it out of the bag.
