So, some of the members have left and joined a weekday membership at Heritage Isles, about 4 miles west of Pebble Creek.  Some quit and are now playing at Lexington Oaks, about 8 miles north.  The res5 of us have taken the offer from Mr Place and transferred membership to Plantation Palms, about 10 miles northwest.  We get free cart plan ($160) for August and our monthly membership will remain the same as at Pebbl3 Creek for one year.  Currently, the membership at PP is about $30/month higher than PC.

Good luck @ Plantation.  One of the guys from here is moving somewhere near Sarasota, Lakeland I think is it’s name.

Sorry that you and your golfing buddies are having to make a drastic change. One good thing is all the memories you will have. I read the letter you received from the owner, it's just a shame that he cannot be honest. He must not be in tune with the golf industry if he thinks golf nationally is down,

"Nationally and locally, golf rounds have steadily declined over most of the last 10 years, as younger people turn to other sports, videos and electronics.  Fewer rounds, fewer members and increasing price competition have left less and less money to cover the high fixed costs of maintaining 120+ acres"

Fewer rounds, fewer members

I saw that phrase too, but the quoted part got me thinking. Perhaps rounds/membership were down at Pebble Creek. What was the staff trying to do to rectify it? Either they did nothing or their efforts were totally ineffective. Regardless, the loss of a course is never a good thing.

Yes it is.....two of my Grandsons were police officers there for 6 years.....both have moved on to new careers.  Downtown Lakeland is very nice, terrific restaurants.

He actually owns several courses.  He had four for several years, sold one then closed one, now just two courses.  Membership gets you play at both.

July 31, 2021…..Final Day for golf course operations.  Well, the day has finally arrived, the last day to play Pebble Creek, a 54 year old course I have been playing since 2009 and a member for the past 6 years.  We had 32 players today in our Final Round.  I shot a 37/38:75, my best round ever at Pebble Creek!  Had two birdies, #8 Par 5 and #10 Par 4.  Both birdies were cut in the skins game, but I won First Place overall at +8 points in the Stableford Points Game.  My quota was 26 and I finished with 34 points.  Shot Scope recorded several medals…

9 Up & Downs

7 Consecutive Pars

Score no more than 5 on a hole.

Attire for the 91*+ day was, you guessed it…..Black, in mourning for our club closing.

After the Payout, and a few pitchers, 9 of us returned to the course and played a 3 Person Scramble. My team came in 3rd place with +16 PTx, bested by +21 and +22 Pts.

Have the same problems with employees around me too. With the unemployment pay increase from COVID people are making more money staying home. Every store and fast food chain around me is currently short staffed and hiring.

This is not unique to a region, it's everywhere.  Many also found position in a new industry and decided not to return to the old one.

At one time, there were enough economic support for all the golf courses in the area.  A current study of why the diminishing economic support for the golf courses in trouble is needed, If anyone wants to "save" the golf courses.

Demographic changes ?  Shift in the local economic development ?  Perhaps, the local economy could no linger sustain all the golf courses in the area and some of them just need to be retired ?
