Taylormade Project (a) - End of Life

Recommended Posts

Anybody else notice that Taylormade is getting rid of the Project (a) brand ball?  Shame, since these are my favorites.  They go straight, far, and are soft.  Anybody know if Taylormade will have another ball with the same specs but different name?

What's in the Bag:

Driver - Titleist TS2 11.5, Diamana 70 Stiff Flex

FW - Callaway Razr X 3 Wood

Rescue - Taylormade Rocketballz 4 Rescue

Irons - Callaway Apex CF19, Nippon S. Pro 1050 GH, Stiff Flex

Wedges - Titleist Vokey S4 48, 52, 56, and 60

Putter - Odyssey OWorks Marxman

Yes. These were both replaced in February 2020 so the Project balls have been discontinued for a while now.

Apparently I haven't needed to buy golf balls in a while!

Project (a) was a good line that I enjoyed. Will maybe give the tour response a try next season when I run out of my srixons.

old thread but if anyone is looking for a good deal on TM Project (a), Golfdiscount has a deal right now. 9.99 for 6 Dadism edition Project (a) or 29.97 for a 4 pack (basically $15/dz at that price) and you can pick up 8 6 packs. Same ball as the standard Project (a) with cool dad sayings on it for a better price!

I have found and played a few of the Project a balls.  I always found that to be an odd name... like a still in the works R&D project inadvertently sent to market.  They seemed fine but I have no idea what other make/model balls they competed directly with... but would guess Titleist Tour-Soft, Srixon Soft-Feel?  For those who have found either the a or s to be the ball of choice, there should be some great deals on remaining inventories.

They were a decent ball but too soft for me. I got a free dozen via golfnow a few years back.

Pretty sure I still have a few P (a)'s in the bottom of my "found balls" pocket. I actually enjoyed that ball a lot (I also enjoyed the QST, so I guess I have a type), but it's not like it was one of those "wow I must stock up and buy 8 dozen right now" balls either.

I used to really like the Project (a) but after messing around a bit with other better balls, I found the lack of spin on longer irons to be a deal breaker. Plus, at $29/dozen, you aren't saving any money over Snell's and the like. I wouldn't discourage anyone from playing Project (a)'s though as they may find the lower spin a huge benefit.

It's the same here in PA so far just like last year. None out yet but here it's early. I have one I bought off Amazon that has the Iron washer also and I modified it to fit in the slot that the course has for the Beer coolers. Works well. I normally play matte balls and those need washed all the time.

Never heard of it. A quick Google search suggests it's a Canada-only ball? Maybe comparable to the TaylorMade Soft Response in the States?
