Think about what your scores would be if you could get up and in 50% of the holes? 60%? That's at minimum 9-10 strokes for 18 holes. That turns a 100 a 90-91. Good putting saves pars, makes birdies, makes a bogey instead of a double, its so important. I played and practiced so many years trying to master a 3 iron, and pretty much ignored 2 and 3. Rchang
I played on New Years Day and shot the best 16 holes of my life. Cut off 2 holes because didn’t think could finish all 18. I don’t count my strokes while playing, and after got home realized I had shot 69 for 16 holes. My previous best was 88. Been chasing that round for the whole year. At first few months, shot in the 80’s, but then blew up to near 100. This fall started to fix things and today shot 90 that was compromised by trying to help my teenager not get too down on his first 18 hole round. My goals are to play in the 80’s consistently. What needs fixing? 1) Stop topping the driver. This year I started to top all over the place. Finally last month did a lesson. I spent the whole year working on my pivot and ground forces that my hands weren’t catching up. 2) Know my yardages. Especially what club/swing goes from 40 to 80 yards. Hoping the Rapsodo test helps this 3) Practice short putting. Missed 3 putts under 3 feet today. Need to develop my trust in that area. Got a Putt Out for that 4) Limit the brain fart shots. Example: I topped my fairway today 15 yards and instead of going back to the cart to get another club, I tried to take some off the wood and pulled it OB. golfingbrock
2020 was the best golf year for me since having kids. I got new Sub70 irons and a new Honma Driver(thanks MGS!), played more than ever, and got some great training aids. But I feel like 2021 can get better. I turn 38 next week, and also need to get in better shape as I put on a Covid-20 lbs this year with the gym closed. My handicap started at 0.5, peaked at +2.0 after a few low rounds in early summer, than fell back to a +0.4 to end the year. My low HI came when I was playing a lot of rounds away from home where I played better, so I need to get my scoring average down at home. Scores also went up a bit after adjustment period with new equipment, but settling in nicely now. 2021 Goals: Lose 20-25 lbs Stay in + handicap Get to 120mph cruising speed Have a span of 20 straight rounds on GHIN under 80. Currently I have one 80, and need 12 rounds in 70’s or better to clear it. Break 70 at my home course (rating 73.7) Average less than 1 3-putt/round and average 30 putts/round(currently 32) How I’m going to get there: Dry January- No booze for a month to help my body recover faster and kick-start weight loss(Starting on my birthday Jan 8.) Golf membership- I just got annual pass so I should be able to play around 40 home rounds in 2021 (played around 25 in 2020) Superspeed training and lifting 3x week at office. Also getting a basketball goal for office warehouse to use daily(used to play 3x a week pre-covid) Perfect Putt mat at office for daily use. also switched to claw grip in November and putting has improved greatly Tracking stats and workouts. I’ve never been good at tracking. I like that I can enter round with stats on GHIN now, but this will show areas of improvement. Will do a spreadsheet for golf stats and habit roadmap with written weekly checklist for the workout/superspeed stuff. HardcoreLooper
First off, let's look at what we set out to do for 2020: Quote For 2020: More tournament rounds looping for my daughter. Even more non-tournament rounds playing with my daughter, my dad, and ideally both of them together. More short-set rounds. Classics rounds with the Muirfields and the Apex Grinds. Don't come up short so often - hit more club. Point 1: I didn't caddy for my daughter once this year. By the time the VSGA junior season started up, she was deep into Operation 36 matches, and that was enough competitive golf for her. And in Op36, all the parents can do is watch (getting them ready for high school golf, which is a very good thing). Point 2: I actually got to play a ton of golf with both of my daughters, as my oldest spent most of her second semester home. But I haven't played with my dad at all in 2020. In fact, I haven't seen him since NYE 2019. Point 3: I probably played about 5 or 6 short-set rounds. Always fun. Point 4: The Classic Bag Challenge was a blast. Point 5: I can't say I was perfect with this, but I definitely made an effort to hit more club as long as a good shot wouldn't get me into trouble. For 2021: Play more courses Play more match play Help cook up more forum tournaments Get all three generations of the family on the course together What's in the bag: Driver - TaylorMade Qi10 - Mitsubishi Diamana 60g (S) 3 Wood - Callaway OG Big Bertha - RCH 90 (Firm) 5 Wood - Cobra Speed LD (L) Driving Iron - New Level NLU-01 5i - PW - Wilson Staff D7 Forged - Recoil 760 ( S ) 52* - Cleveland CBX 58* - Cleveland CBX Full Face 2 Putter - Ping Craz-e Bag - Sun Mountain 2.5 (Blue) Ball - Titleist AVX Instagram - @hardcorelooper Twitter - @meovino Facebook - mike.eovino

Titleist87
2021 is a work in progress for me. I had some back issues flare up in 2020 and will be curious to see how this year unfolds. I have not played or swung a golf club since October 2 and have only played a few times since June when the troubles arrived. I am contemplating switching to R graphite shafts and ease up on my swing to reduce the stress on my back. edingc
Realistically, I'd like to shoot 80 or better for the majority of my rounds at my home course. This would be right at the 10 handicap mark, as an 80 is 10.1 differential if my memory serves correct. Swing is coming around, especially with the longer clubs, and it will just be a question of whether I can mentally translate it to the course. New putter and winter practice with the EXPUTT will hopefully shave a few strokes since putting has been terrible at times in the past. 2021 is going to be a weird year for me, trying to find where golf fits in what will hopefully be a slightly more "normal" summer. I played a lot of golf last year because all of our summer plans were cancelled, and then with #CobraConnect I had extra incentive to get out and play. I didn't practice often until August, and it was no surprise to me that I started to play better in mid-late September and early October the last few times I went out (and even ended the year technically in the single digits). Truly, I'm just hoping to get out and play a few rounds with my wife, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. My wife has been sidelined since 2018 with shoulder problems so it's been a long time since she's done more than just occasionally ride along. Back under the old handicap system, you were supposed to play to your handicap about 25% of the time (https://www.oga.org/back-basics-handicapping-101-playing-your-handicap). I haven't found an update to that logic since the change to the WHS. Looking at my last revision, 3 of my last 20 scores have differentials at or below my index, and another two scores are .5 or less above my index. Been working on course management and swing. While my scores haven’t really changed, my swing and short game are improving and I am seeing periods of solid play. I need to do better at avoiding costly mistakes…. bad tee shots, chunked pitches, and 3 putts. Seeing progress is such a great motivator. Awesome work! As for me: - Shoot 80 or better for the majority of my rounds at my home course In 26 18-hole rounds at my home course, I've shot 80 or better 13 times. Almost a majority. I've shot 81 and 82 several more times. I've also broken par on each side, just not together. - Translate EXPUTT and long game work to course My putting is much improved, at least about two strokes a round according to Arccos data. I credit the EXPUTT and my L.A.B. for that. My long game is still the weakest part of my game and generally costs me the most strokes. My swing is continuing to improve. But my driver swing and long game are abysmal at times. - Figure out where golf fits in a "normal" summer I'm thankful for my course and practice range memberships and a flexible manager. I'm on track to exceed last year's rounds played total despite being busier overall. - Play with the wife and relatives I've gotten out about eight times on course with the wife, and some range sessions as well. Played a handful of rounds with the brother-in-law, and also a couple with my in-laws. Success here!
