Danger.. Tis the season to get a bit stir crazy.

So, every year without fail at this time I find that for golfers and equipment heads, this is the most dangerous season of them all!  No, it's certainly not because of the Christmas season either.

I'm just curious if there others out there that find themselves locked in a dark room watching youtube videos on equipment, scouring websites to see all the deals and pondering; "hmmm I think I should change out...." whatever that may be.  I suspect that I'm not the only one with the illness, but I just thought I'd see what others find themselves doing at this time of year.  I even look at equipment I currently am quite pleased with and have and say, "hmmm I wonder if I shouldn't change over to something else..."

Happy Christmas everybody!

  • I ordered a new PW and GW on December 6th.
  • My best friend went to Club Champion a couple of weeks ago and just got an entire new set of irons.
  • Another golfing buddy showed me his brand new driver and new irons on the range just this past Saturday.

It's definitely a popular time of year to make equipment upgrades and changes for sure.  I guess it's boredom in cold weather, and especially this year being locked inside for an endless amount of time with no relief in sight.

I've actually been watching review after review of things, which isn't uncommon because I enjoy hearing their thoughts, and it's just got me in the mood to change things up... and I KNOW I shouldn't because everything I have in the bag right now performs better than anything I've swung in years... But here I am.  I think you hit the nail on the head... boredom sets in and then you're ready to just play around for no good reason...

Yep. This time of year can get real crazy. A few years back I bought three sets of irons over the winter and sold two of them without ever even hitting them once.

To be fair, they were all used and since it was the middle of winter they were dirt cheap 🙂 I think I spent $400 total on the sets and I ended up making a couple of bucks once all was said and done.

To be fair, aren't we all? 😄  And it did make sense as he did sell them and turned a little bit of a profit.  Never can complain about that.

I do my best to keep playing.  Otherwise I would probably buy a new something, or another(and many of them) every damn year!!!!!  Gotten in 2 rounds in December here on the shores of Lake Erie.  Hoping we don't get the snow and get out the day after Christmas!  2 Long Sleeve layers, another vest to cover your core, a hat and winter golf gloves, and walking instead of riding, and you'd be amazed at how comfortable 30 degrees feels😀!  Its really not bad.

😄 Funny @stuka44 I can totally relate.  I'm down towards Central PA and get out until there's a full blanket of that white stuff on the ground.  Which, as you are aware happened for the first time this winter last week.  I'm hoping for it to melt off and clear the courses cause I'm going through withdrawal.

That said, I just saw two new releases that will be coming out sooner than we know it.  Ping and Callaway new irons.  (i59 and new Apex irons)  So I'm already twitching to try them out when they hit the stores.  Not that I need them or want to switch out of my 919's but... as the addiction goes for so many of us here, I could very easily see myself getting into one of them.  Both look amazing.

I'm not sure where those two are...

Typically, because the set up is a links style I get down to Royal Manchester a lot.  One of the top public courses in PA and minutes from my home.  Such a nice track and ridiculously difficult from the tips.   If that doesn't work I'll head further south down towards the Maryland border.  I guess you could say as far as the motivation goes, i'll go!

Yes.. Lost Nation some, and Erie Shores in Madison the Lake Metroparks course is open year round, its flat and walkable like Lost Nation .   Hoping this 11 degree high, will give way to some rain to melt the snow and a return to a balmy 33 degrees F. So I can get in a round here in February

Awesome that Erie Shores is open year round, bet those lake breezes feel great. I usually look for the notices of the Akron area courses opening up, like Turkeyfoot etc.

Lucky for me winters are short here. Late January and all of February is winter. Still a few nice days in there once in a while. March the flowers start to come up.  But I am the type to try to keep busy during February. See my post on "Building my Golf Room" Well that was only a week or two ago and I already tore down the impact screen. I had a King size sheet over a canvas drop cloth and behind those were suspended moving blankets. It worked. Then I replaced the moving blankets with floor carpeting. That did not work the rebounding balls almost went through the glass on the entertainment center. Then the carpet became side walls. Last week I built a frame out of PVC and slid in old broom stick handles to eliminate and sagging. Then ordered a net (out for delivery today). I'll get that installed later today then get the screen up in front of that.

February kills me, I made a table that my wife saw in a magazine for the hallway, a noodle board for the stove top. Re-did the dogs run area. Re-organized the food, and Tupperware cabinets. Built speed sticks. OK, yes I ordered a wedge too. December I built my Down Under Board. January Finished the Gamer ball review.

I can play on the simulator but its not the same as being outdoors.

I still have three more weeks of February. Shoot me!

Yes the lake can can be GOOD and BAD.  I'm about 4 miles from the lake.  Got in a January round this year when it snowed I had 5 inches of snow in my yard, but the lake was just warm enough still that within about 1/2 mile of the lake there was no snow, Erie Shores was green grass, it was still a chilly 35 degrees....but by god I got the round in.  But on the flip side you are also right.  In March and April it can be mid 50's or a little warmer at my house and the northeasterly breeze making its way from Canada across the 34 degree waters of Lake Erie, and its about 36 degrees at the course!   I CAN'T IMAGINE WHY I WANT TO MOVE AWAY FROM NORTHEAST OHIO IN THE NEAR FUTURE.....

Tom:  I appreciate your efforts to make be feel better, recounting the woes of Greeneville TN weather.  I wouldn't want to  be un-invited to play again if my wife and I return to the Greeneville area (we are still looking in the area,  Thanks Again!), but I see it is 64 degrees in Greeneville today, it's 21 here now and we had a high of 12 on Monday...  If it was 64 I would be playing in golf spikes, and my underwear, and that's something NOBODY wants to see😂🤣.  Thanks again for everything, and point taken. THIS CRAPPY WEATHER CAN'T END SOON ENOUGH!!!!!  Hope to be down  later this year..

I grew up in the middle of Geauga so 2 feet of snow a time was normal. Now on the west side we get only a an inch ot two of its lake effect. Just can't get out right now.
