2021 Fantasy Golf

With the number of PGA guys playing Saudi this week, I really wish we would expand beyond the PGA tour. I know we’d be comparing apples and oranges from a score perspective, but it’s crazy you could have the defending US Open Champ on your roster and he’s playing a tournament and you can’t use him as a start.

Interesting idea, I do not know how practical would it be to implement, and what tournaments would be eligible for it?

That is the tough part of having only 8 spots on your roster and wanting to keep the promising names for the long haul, there are some weeks that it will not  work out.

I totally agree, and understand that is why it isn’t done. It’s just annoying and if there is a solid solution I’d love to find it. Perhaps Fantrax could calculate score based on slope/rating or something like that? If there are more than X number of pga players in the field than it counts?

This is one if the challenges of fantasy golf. The are all independent and can play,
Play somewhere else, or not play any given week. Having the top golfers on your roster is great except they typically play less events. Find a guy that plays every week and he doesn’t play the bigger events or plays because he doesn’t finish very high and misses cuts.

Then to win the playoffs you need the players that are playing well but are on other teams rosters. As you work through the playoffs you do it with fewer and fewer golfers.

Not anything like football where your top players Are generally there every week.

As a Paul Casey owner, I would’ve loved to have the points from his win in Dubai last week. Unfortunately we’re limited to the official PGA stroke play schedule because that’s where the stats come in. You’ll notice this later in the year when the WGC Match Play happens and the only guys we can start are from the opposite field event. Such are the challenges of fantasy golf. 
 

If you think about it though, this league would quickly turn into a Euro fantasy league if we found a way to bring in non-PGA events as the scores are typically much much lower. It’d be like if we allowed college players in an NFL league.... no reason to use the more talented NFL players while college guys are putting up video game numbers.

Could we re-evaluate Eagles scoring going forward? Birdies being worth 2 and Eagles being worth 3 seems disproportionate as Eagles are significantly more rare than birdies.

5 guys playing. Winning all my matchups. 3 of them are at -2 and are going to miss the cut by 1 stroke. I could potentially have the winner (Xander) and still lose all my matchups. Isn’t this fun?

I only lost M. Thompson out of my starting 4 for the weekend. B. Harman clawed his way above the cut line...the guy is a grinder. The X-Man is looking solid and would love to see him win... but if none of my guys can challenge for the trash can trophy, I'm still rooting for Stricker (it's an old guys thing ).

All 6 guys make the cut and in the top 40. Hopefully I can do better than 6-4 this week!  May have to trade my guy Rory. He just can’t seem to play up to his potential when he is on my team.

I’d almost trade ya. 6 guys make the cut, 2 inside the top 10, 4 inside the top 36 and still won’t go 10-0 or even 9-1.  
 

I know I probably sound like I’m whining but not a fan of how this is set up this year. We take some of the skill out of it by not having to choose who to play and then add more luck to the equation with only playing 10 matchups. You could offset some of the luck by having to make decisions on who to start. At least last year we played everybody every week.

I live in that world, too. I did manage 6-4 last week, but I don’t even want to look right now.

Edit: and the commissioners wanted to keep the all vs all match ups but we couldn't get schedules to populate on fantrax bc we had too many teams in the league. So it was either kick people out or change the league schedule.

I completely understand why the league is set up this way and it won’t keep me from playing next if it is the same, just ranting/whining more than anything. I realize that next week it could flip and I could go 10-0 being bottom half in scoring.  As someone who really enjoys the research side of fantasy sports, having to make decisions based on what I believe will happen from that research, picking up guys and trading them, this style takes some of that enjoyment out of it for me.

 I just want my title back!
