He's probably 2-3 years from retiring, so I'll suggest this to him as a retirement gig.

Wanted to give a shout out to my dad for some club work he did for me. A couple months back, I ordered a Mavrik FW from Callaway Pre-Owned in "Very Good" condition. I think many of us have seen that, although CPO used to send clubs that were in amazing condition for their listed grade, that has been degraded considerably in the past couple of years. Sure enough, this VG condition FW came to me with a pretty significant scar in the crown on the toe side.

But my dad started his career as a body man in an auto repair shop, so I thought me might be able to repair this. Compare the before picture (which I took) to the picture my dad sent me today:

mavrik-before-and-after.jpg

I don't know what all went into his process, but that's mighty impressive in my opinion! Now I'm hoping I hit this as good as it looks.

I haven't seen CPO underestimate the condition of a club and if they do it is generally a mistake.  The club as show does not meet their VG condition guide or even the next level below.   Amazing work to get the head looking like new,

I wish I could say the same. The first clubs I bought from them were amazing: "Like New" and "Very Good" were often indistinguishable from new, sometimes with the tags and plastic still on them. But most of my recent orders have been much more underwhelming: my Indianapolis was gouged on the underside, my R-Ball had visible marks at address, my Rogue driver initially came with a shaft that had a crack (that completely broke in two when I put minimal pressure on it). Might just be a string of bad luck on my part, and I still shop there because (with the sales) it's hard to be beat the prices, but I no longer expect outlet/overstock condition.

One more pic, in better lighting (I sent my dad a message because it looked like the crown graphics might have darkened, but that was just the light).

I've read a lot of people comment that on the clubs out of CPO.  If you even read some of the reviews people have complained.  I'd like to think that some of it has to do with the current state of affairs and everyone buying up things during Covid.  BUT I think it actually probably started before then.  Still, like you said, for the price you can't beat them... Just may need to lower expectations and or have that amazing refinish job done on a club.

Looks like only the clear coat was damaged so he probably treated it just like a car and used a clear coat swirl removing compound (basically a paste with light grit to it) and rubbed out the scratches and swirls and then polished it with a basic solid or spray car wax.

I’ve done this on several glossy wood heads and it works great
