I was looking up some courses as I am driving down for vacation to the Hilton Head are in late March. Any recommendations of public or semi private courses to play near Hilton Head or the Savannah area? We are staying in Palmetto Dunes so I know I have a few to play in close proximity but hoping to hear about courses that may fly under the radar or resort courses that surprised you.

Even though I live in SC, I’ve never had the chance (yet) to play anything on HHI. I have however, played The Club at Savannah Harbor, and can recommend it highly. It used to host the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf, and is a fantastic track just across the river from downtown Savannah, which is a great city, BTW. Have fun!

Since you are staying in Palmetto Dunes, I would suggest you play the 3 courses in their resort. Robert Trent Jones Course, George Fazio Course and Arthur Hills Course.

I second all of the above thus far.  Definitely enjoyed the Club at Savannah Harbor.  Recently played Atlantic Dunes and it was fun, but I enjoyed a few of the Palmetto Dune courses better myself for the money.  Don't get me wrong, still excellent track.  Great thing about the area is that there are just so many great courses to choose from!

We went this past July and just booked another stay in Sea Pines in June.

FYI if you play Club at Savannah Harbor, TAKE BUG SPRAY!!!

I had bug spray & I was still eaten alive on that back 9!!!

Welcome to the Ga Coast! Been there done that and it's not fun golf. I don't have any idea how people live in these places.

Kind of a sleeper, but the course on the Marine base at Parris Island is a good course, and cheap, too. It's very close to Beaufort, and that's a nice town to walk around in.

The Legends at Parris Island. 2nded. Not a house on the course, and q-u-i-e-t, unless someone takes off from MCAS Beaufort about 10 miles up the road. 😉

I would also suggest Hilton Head National, my favorite public course there. 🙂

Mixed bag... Mizzy irons, Callaway Woods, Vokey Wedges, Odyssey putter, spherical projectiles by Snell.
