Impact Training Mat - anyone tried it?

Recommended Posts

I have seen a few YouTube ads for the Acustrike Impact Training Mat - basically a velvet-like material that will show where the club touches the ground during the swing.

Has anyone tried it or have any feedback on it?

I have been struggling with poor impact lately, and I thought it might be worth a shot. I know my impact condition is a result of a core issue that a device like this will only show the symptom and not the cure. However, the idea of instant feedback is appealing.

I found a couple knock-off, direct from China copies of the official product for about $16-18 delivered, so I ordered one. Has anyone tried the knock-off or original version?

I haven't tried it however low point control is a major obstacle in most golf swings. Training to get it better will help. Good Luck with it!

Never seen it.  Pretty simple idea really.  Here's a link to the YT video.  It would be really beneficial combined with a LM.  If I ever get around to building a DIY LM Cave, this would be the a nice addition.

Have seen a few reviews and they are generally not favorable.   Things like it doesn't stay in place and is of poor quality.

Low point control is a good way to put it. I like to feel like my wrists are not trying to elevate the club head at address to prevent the club from being able to go lower than at address during the swing. I get a feeling of the club weight hanging freely without muscle tension, and come down to the ball from there before starting my swing.

Great mental image of low point control!

Using a towel, headcover, tee or something behind the ball is usually what I usually use especially on a mat to work on not hitting the ball fat. Foot spray on the club face and to draw a line on the ground or mat to place the ball in to see where I contact the ball.

I haven’t seen any use this device and I’ve seen similar feedback that cnosil mentions

So I confess I bought one last year or year before. I have the thick indoor one but have hit balls in net and rigged it for chips. It won't lie, if you are prone to flipping as I am it will reveal it.
I only like it for chipping drills and I can see my divot patterns for the various chips/pitches I am practicing for the course. I do not like it for full swing shots. Have seen the outdoor ones at local driving range.

I bought the outdoor version last fall, and used it with these:

https://www.amazon.com/IZZO-Golf-Flatball-Swing-Training/dp/B0056DMHYS

I hung a tarp over my garage door opening, and set up the mat in the driveway. I have to say that the combination of the flat "balls" and contact indicator mat was helpful, if a bit humbling to this 16-handicapper.  It does move a bit, but is actually pretty stable.

One big negative imo is lack of durability. After 25 or so swings, the surface began to peel away. You can move your ball around, but I would say it is only good for a single season.

Oh, by the way, if you were driving by the house last year, I *meant* to completely whiff those couple of times.

Well, it came, and I had a chance to try it. First swing. THE VERY FIRST SWING, IT RIPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I admit my swing was steeper and fatter than I would liked it to have been. However, it should have been more durable than that.

I will say I continued to use it for a few mins in different spots. It seemed to work well for chipping, but I could not really get the mat to stay put.

I'm not sure if the real Acustrike is any better? But, the cheap eBay version is a buy with caution from me.

What bothers me is that there are so many on Amazon sold under different names, yet they use the same exact pics ... which indicates to me that someone is ripping someone off & quality can not be good. I see it with a lot of products on Amazon, so I do not trust ordering one. The instagram ads are mostly from companies in China and the last order I did originating there took 6 mos to receive. Although USPS has been taking 3 mos lately. I just want a quality product from a company I can trust.

So I am not familiar with the version in which you experienced the tear. The one I have is the acustrike, looks a little different. No tears or rips after hundreds of strikes. But I still don't like mine (mainly the feel at impact). Just too fake like I am hitting off a surface I should not be hitting off of..... Not expecting any artificial product to feel exactly like real turf but even some of the more quality mats don't feel bad hitting off of. The acustrike imo does not remotely feel good. But I guess its durable.  Hope you can get yours replaced. Good luck.

I was able to get a 50% refund. It's direct from China, so returning it was cost prohibitive.
