Nippon Modus Wedge Shaft

Recommended Posts

I play the stiff Modus 120 shaft in my irons, but never really considered what was in my wedges. Thinking about trying the Nippon Modus Wedge shaft. I only play 56 and 51 degree wedges. Thinking about playing a stiff in the 51, but playing a regular in the 56. Anyone play this shaft in their wedges and have any feedback? Anyone play a different flex between the wedges? The 56 is rarely used for full shots which is why I am thinking a softer shaft in it.

I happen to play Modus 120 stiff in my irons, and was recently playing the Modus Wedge shafts (105 wedge). But I switched to the KBS Hi-Rev because I like how soft the tip is in the Hi-Rev.

I play Modus 120s in my irons but play Modus 130s in my wedges. For me, it’s more about generating spin with flighting my shots. I play the ball back in my stance to help with this. I’m able to get the hop and stop I’m looking for and I’m typically looking to attack flags with a wedge in my hand.

I would suggest talking with a fitter to see what they recommend. My fitter had me go heavier and builds my wedges with a 9 iron shaft cut to length. This isn’t a suggestion but it works well for me as I was having issues with my wedges ballooning when taking full swings. The kick points were a little different on the Modus wedge shafts so this was the solution we came up with. I know you mentioned you don’t hit full shots with your 56, so a fitter may have a better idea. I hope this helps a little. We’re all different in our approach.

@Kanoito did you guys a giant favor...That thread was a wealth of resources when I made the switch.  I play 120S in my irons and 115S in my wedges.  NOT a fan of the wedge shaft at all.  I will keep them in because I am stubborn but the feel does not compare to the 120 when both are in my hands...this is important mostly because my 52 gets a lot of attention during a round.  Good luck!!

I game 120 stiff shafts in my irons (3-PW) and love the response and performance of them.  I have thought of changing my wedge shafts, all three currently shafted with 120 stiff as well (the 3 iron has dropped off the bag).  I have not found a great combination for my GW and am still learning my 55° sand wedge.  Problem is I love the 120 stiff shaft in my LW (58°) and hit that so well I am not touching anything with that.  I want to stay uniform with my shafts but the GW has been an issue.

I gamed Modus 115 wedge shafts in my SM6 and loved the feel.  Believe they were stiff, but always felt like Modus plays a bit softer overall.

Now have the DG Tour Issue in the Jaws 58* and a KBS Hi Rev in my 54* and although I still hit them fairly well, I felt like I had more control when I had the Modus shafts in.  A lot of it could be mental, but that's a big part of the game.

I play the 120’s in stiff and originally put these in my wedges too. Couldn’t get on with the wedges at all so decided to put the 115’s in and have never looked back.
