Has anyone tried Jumbomax grips?

Yep, commenting on an old thread.  There are several JumboMax grip discussions and based on a video by one of our forum members and clubmakers  @McGolf I’m now interested in trying them.  I know he specifically tested irons, but I’d like to try it on driver; not really looking for more distance in my irons, but as is everyone else I’m looking for better and longer tee shots 😁    I’m willing to put $17.00 into this experiment and see how it performs for me.   I’ve gone to the JumboMax site and it seems the fitting is based on glove size….I get the reasoning for that, but as studies have shown, people use the wrong size glove and I doubt there is a standard size for gloves either.   Not sure my usual golf store has them,  but the GG that is about 40 minutes away does so I just need to find some time to head over.

For clarity, not everyone saw an increase in distance. Two golfers did not see an increase. That said a majority of the golfer did see an increase and some saw an additional reduction in the landing pattern i.e. more consistency.  Does this mean any size will produce those results? Not even close. Much like getting fit for a standard grip then is a point of no return in the larger grips too.  The biggest issue with the grip is a magnitude of change for the golfer or acceptance of the size even when the results are there. Basically out of a comfort factor. I'm going to try them after this last set of testing. Might be a good video jumbo max a year later.,,,,

I listened to your caveat at the end of the video 😁.   But I am willing to give it a try since swapping grips is a fairly easy undertaking.

Nobody near me had them in stock, so I got lazy and ordered three different sizes to try when I experimented with them. Not the feel for me personally. Their sizing would fit me into a Large grip, but that hurt my hands quite a bit. The small was better as far as a fit for me, but I just really didn't like the feel of the grip. It reminds me of Winn grips and I have never gotten along with them. Also, the feel of the clubs get a little weird depending on the model because of the weight of the grips.

I think the sizing may be a bit over when measuring. I liked the small (which is big!) and I believe I'm sized to a large

I tried the JumboMax on my driver. I never could get used to it. It was too big.  I replaced it with a Golf Pride CPX. It was too soft. I ended up back where I started grip wise. A Golf Pride MCC Plus 4. It was just right.

I picked up a small ultralight and gave it a go yesterday.   Hit it pretty well on the range.  Ball flight was a little higher than normal; which is good since i generally hit the ball too low with driver and with a slight draw.  First tee shot was straight and down the middle.  Unfortunately my golf game was terrible yesterday and I didn’t hit many great shots after that.  Transition to the larger grip and back to smaller grips didn’t seem to be an issue but maybe that is why I hit the ball so poorly.   Will have to see how it does over the next few rounds to see how it does.   I am also going into MGS HQ to,or row so I may try to se what kind of speed change Might be present via the GCQuad.

I have experimented with them and have a perspective from my experience. At first I thought they were the grips I needed. Kinda like the first few times you roll a brand new putter, you have a different "feel" and for whatever reason the "new" just works. Then your body gets use to the change/comfortable and reality kicks in. I like how the jumbo's felt, and they held up very well in humid/wet weather. My challenge is I am a "feel" player with very much active hands (yes I time my flip on flop shots). I can not with oversize grips---others can I just could not. Where I loved the jumbomax grip is my driver, very solid center strikes. I would say try a few first before going all in. And if I could do what Bryson does it would be a no Braineremoji3.png. Good luck

I had a terrible time controlling my hook until I switched to midsize about 10 years ago.  I play them on all my clubs.  I have large palms and smaller fingers.  The midsize works for me.  One of our regular foursome guys went to the jumbo max on his driver at the recommendation of our club pro.  I’d say after six months, it’s been a failure for him as he hasn’t had much improvement.  Bryson is a different cat altogether and has unbelievable club face control.  I expect he would have that regardless of grip size.

I thought I was developing arthritis in my trail hand. Every shot was excruciating. Turns out I have trigger finger. Anyway, I switched to large grips to reduce pain, and it made a difference … reduced the pain but did not eliminate it. So I thought about going even larger with JumboMax. But then I worried about the loss of investment, over $200 if I didn’t like them. Ultimately I decided to put the JumboMax ultralite on my “S” driver shaft, but left my “R” shaft with an oversized Golf Pride grip. The reaction from others in both cases, first going from standard size grips to oversized and then again going from oversized to jumbo, EVERYONE said I wouldn’t be able to square the face & would hate them. I seriously doubt that any of them had ever tried, because I never experienced that issue. I felt like the first round I played with the JumboMax, I flipped the driver more … BUT I had been talked into playing the gold tees in a group of 75 yr olds, and I was over swinging, trying to drive the green every time. For me … I now switch shafts depending on how my back feels … whether I can swing hard with the stiff, or if I’m feeling a bit weaker, swing slower with the reg … oddly, the difference in grip sizes doesn’t take any adjustment for me. Whether that ultimately is because I’m accustomed to them now, I do not know. It’s not an issue. I would however, still love to try the JumboMax on my entire set. BUT like I said before, if I don’t like them, that will be like throwing away $400 buying 2 new sets of grips. … … … I’ve tried blowing grips off, but can’t get it to work. The point to all of this? I like an oversized grip.

I tried one on a new zx 3 wood last year just for fun. It took one swing to realize it was staying in the bag the rest of my round 😂. My perspective would be driving a car in ice. No control.

I normally use mid-size Golf Pride CP2 wrap grips. I live in PA and we golf in the winter. I have mild arthritis. I used the Jumbo CP2 wrap on my driver and 3 wood in cold weather which helps me with mild hand joint pain. When it warms up, I take them off. I have good dispersion with the jumbo grips. I am a little wristy with my hands and prefer the mid-size which is why I go back to them when its warmer.

This looks like an old thread; however, it just popped up in one of the links in a mygolfspy email.  JumboMax grips saved my golf game, thanks to arthritis in my hands, particularly my trail hand (right) in which I cannot make a fist.  I use the MD (Medium) Tour Series and recently purchased some of the Ultralite grips, just to try.  I've used the MD Tour Series for the last 3 years to success.  My hcp index is 8.4 and I've shot my age (now 75) 4 straight years in a row at least once a year.  I've used the grips on both graphite (driver and fairway metals) and steel (KBS Tour...irons), though I've recently switched from my 2nd set of Cobra One Length irons (wore out the first set) to a conventional set of Ping's with Recoil S shafts.  I would recommend trying ONE Tour Series, perhaps with 6 or 7 iron to see if the counterbalance really matters to you.  Tip...these grips can be fairly easily put on and removed with a compressor and no grip tape (got that tip from JumboMax Support).  In addition to not ruining the grip should decide you don't like it, it also makes it easy to reorient the grip on adjustable drivers (e.g. Cobra, Cleveland) that rotate the shaft with adjustment.  Incidentally, Bryson uses the XL Ultralites, which he switched to, from the Tour Series XL, when he went to all graphite LAGolf shafts in his single length irons.

I was at MGS HQ today and hit a few tee shots to see how my club was performing with the Jumbomax.  Unfortunately,  the grip may not be the best option for me.   On the GC Quad my shots had the same snap hook tendency that I was experiencing on the course.  The shots were also very low spin which is something I suffer from with drivers.   Ball speed numbers were around my normal speeds.    Going to give it another try but this may be a short lived experiment.

Experiment with the Jumbomax grips is now over and the grip will be cut off and disposed of.   While I had no mental issues with the size or feel of the grip, I was unable to effectively hit my driver.  Almost every tee shot curved significantly from right to left and I am guessing with extremely low spin since they quickly dived to the ground.  On good tee shots I lost significant distance; which is based on shotscope numbers and where my ball was in relation to my playing partners position.

At least you only did one.  I was at our only golf shop in town and they were taking off those grips from an iron set; they had just put them on for someone the week earlier.  Expensive!!

I'm sure they work for some; my wife had been using the Pure Wrap midsize up until this last year when she tried the Pure Wrap Jumbo.  It's easy trying out different grips when using air to install/remove.  Her hands are crap, and she likes the larger grip which helps control the club better.  She is probably losing distance, but it works for her game.

Anyone try these yet?
