"The National" titanium driver and woods

Recommended Posts

A fellow Stick and Hack member posted this question to the members group and I suggested this forum for the wealth of knowledge that permeates with my good friends here on MGS.  So here is his question and the photos he posted, and his last line is what prompted my posting it here for him.

Hey everyone,
New-ish member here, and had a question that hopefully someone can assist with. Back in the late 90's/early 2000's, I had a set of woods just labeled "The National". A golf buddy gave them to me and they were great clubs that fit me well. In between moving for work a few times, they were lost. I always told everyone they were my favorite club ever but no one has ever heard of them.
I googled the company for years, but never got results. Then by chance, I saw the Driver on Ebay. So, naturally, I snagged it up. I'm wondering if it is the exact club i had or were there more. I would love to find the 3 and 5 wood to match.
Has anyone heard of the brand, or know who manufactured them? The shaft says 'made in USA'.
I'll keep searching around, but 69 days til Spring means I'm hoping to be otherwise engaged once the weather breaks.
Hit em hard and often everyone!
Thanks for any info

As with other forums, due to the rapidly growing membership of the Stick and Hack Club, some responses are not what one would hope for, so I thought I would get a jump on identifying this club and perhaps quell the rhetoric.

Maybe someone else has a different opinion, but I'd consider it to be a Great Big Bertha clone club (just without a bore-through shaft). A lot of them were sold under a variety of brand names in the late 90's. For completing a set of woods, might be worth just getting some Great Big Berthas, they are pretty cheap and easily found online. Trying to track down this particular brand name will be tougher.

Thanks for the thought, similar to mine with what I was thinking,  hoping @BIG STU might be able to lend his extensive knowledge.

It appears to be a Bertha clone without the bore through; A lot of the clone makers made non bore through heads because they were cheaper and it does not take as much skill to install and tune as a bore through. It also had to do with patent infrigement too

Appreciate your observations and opinion, all too often information is obscure or missing for the older clubs I come across and every bit helps. Thanks 👍
