txgolfjunkie
I just ordered a Ping G425 LST 14.5* with the Tour 75 X Flex. The consistent spin is what sold it for me. I wasn't able to hit the Tour 75 but the other shafts (Tour 65, Aldila Rogue 130, Tensei Orange and CB factory) didn't do it for me. PMookie
Debating it. The TS3 hasn’t been really good for me, but I’m not going to get anything without a fitting first. The Ping and Tour Edge fairways have my eye! If a Tour Edge performs for me, I’d buy it in a heartbeat to save some dough! Gonna have to go heavier, 211g-215g, and only 43” this time. I’m tempted just trim a 1/2” and hot melt the TS3, but it we’ll see. Long way before demo days start... gmdeac10
TXG just compared the Srixon ZX vs Cobra RadSpeed vs Cobra Mizuno STZ 3 woods. Matt loved the Mizuno and thought it was the best 3W he's hit so far. I'm definitely interested to try it out when I get fit. It's strange how the Mizuno Driver is such a bargain and the Woods aren't as cheap comparatively speaking. PMookie
revkev
Another big weekend for Ping 7 woods BTW - they aren't just for us old guys anymore! And I appreciate the lag time in orders as well - it reminds me of the good old days - I had to wait 11 business days for my Edison's to be built - fine with me - means that they were built for me. Similar experience with the Wilson D7 forged test, perhaps a bit longer there - long forgotten now and those things fit me like a glove - I may go custom like that for the rest of my golfing life - it's like ordering at Burger King - always get something added or subtracted from the standard and you know it will be fresh off the grill. hartrick11
I picked up better launch and forgiveness switching my 3W from Epic Flash SZ to a TSi2. The shaft made a lot of difference on the launch (from Atmos black to AD-IZ), but the TSi seems to be consistently more forgiving for me. BUT I still haven't sold the Epic yet because she has been a good one for me especially off the tee... I need to be 300% sure before totally moving on from a 3 wood. I am thinking about upgrading my 818 h2 hybrid to a more forgiving TSi2 this year, but I think I will test out a 5w/7w as well just to make sure. Why? Cbfodalo
Recently rekindled my passion for golf at the end of last summer. Have seriously got the itch to play constantly. I always played driver and long irons, but as my game improved I have been adding more fairway woods to bag. Were before my ego would cause me to think that hitting a long iron 220 or 230 was more pure then hitting a FW wood. Now I am just trying to take path of least resistance to hole. I just received the Mavrik 9w I ordered to replace the 5i. I had to buy women's club as could not find a men's version of the mavrik 9w. I already ordered the matching aldila Rouge white 70s shaft I play in all my woods. So right now I have following clubs in bag. Driver Mavrik sub zero 9 set at 11 with draw bias Mavrik fairway woods 3,5,7,9 Mizuno jpx-921 forged irons 6-gw with KBS Tour 90 black shafts. Mizuno es21 56/10 sw and 60/10 lw. Clubs look great, but all those damn head covers clutter up my bag. Tempted to take them all off while playing and just leaving them in truck. Have not hit 9w yet as the shaft is not in yet but I am pretty sure my gapping will be as follows. Driver 265 3w 230 5w 220 7w 200 9w 180. 6i 170 7i 160 8i 150 9i 140 PW 130 GW 120 SW 100 LW 80 I really prefer the ball flight of FW over long irons. The mavriks when hit clean sound really crisp and powerful, ball tends to have nice flat rising trajectory, to a peak height then come down softly. I am working to hit a draw or fade when needed and have had some really nice success, and if I want I can keep them low and hot I can. When my driver and FW swing is on, I rarely hit any irons except 8-sw. Most par five I can reach in two with driver, 3 5 or 7 w. Par 4s are driver, 8, 9 or wedge unless I miss hit something. The main reason I bought 9w is for long par 3's. My bigest need for improvement from strokes gained perspective is missing approach shots. Distance is usually close, but missing left or right of green is costing me, second would be putting, I am sometimes pretty good and other times I cannot sink anythng outside 4'. One of the most frustrating thing I am doing lately. Is pulling irons to left or snap hooking drive or FW. I was a notorious long ball slicer for longer than I care to admit. And I can still on occasion slice a drive into next county, but generally I have eliminated slice as a big problem, I can live with the iron pull, mostly ends up pin high and playable, but that snap hook off tee is brutal. I am good for at least 1 per round and have not been able to feel what I am doing to get there. In theory I know I am probable swinging out to in with severly closed face.... But I cannot feel it Sorry for Rambling. What are you most interested in this year? I hadn't planned on upgrading anything more than my driver shaft this year, but as fate would have it, a friend got me drunk on tequila and made me a bet I couldn't refuse... Short story shorter, the next day I woke up with a hangover and no driver or 3w. So while he was the proud new owner of a Ping G410 LST and G400 3w, I had to schedule a fitting for the following day since my bag now had a top end of 2i distance. Although the Ping G425 had more forgiveness, my goal for a 3w was long par 5s in 2 shots and I couldn't look away from the TM SIM2 Ti. I went in brand agnostic and ended up with the only TM club I've owned since the original burner driver. I'm now playing the SIM2 Ti Rocket 3w at 13.5* with UST Lin-Q Purple 7F5 shaft. The driver, which I ordered a week prior to the 3w in January, is still not in my hands (Callaway Epic Max LS w/ UST Lin-Q Purple 7F5 shaft). At this point, with as long as the 3w has been off the tee, I'm tempted to cancel the driver and crank this one down 1*, and buy a second, higher lofted FW to fill in distance to my 2i.
