Shaft weight fitting/New shafts or just get the new G425’s?

Recommended Posts

Help me out

Bought the PING G-700’s when they came out, the “fitting” was not that great now that I think about all involved.

‘Since I’ve owned them something did not feel right, they felt light.

Today at the range, a gentleman next to me was it hitting the PING i’500’s, we struck up a conversation, he offered to let me hit them and in turn I did same. He told me something that hit what I felt on the 700’s, he could not feel the position of the head on the swing and of course, too light. I did notice when I struck hit his ‘500’s well , the length and height of the shots were about the same as my ‘700’s plus I could feel the position of the head.

‘Here is my question, is there heavier graphite shafts than 92? If I make the heads heavier how much would that affect the shaft flex? If I get heavier shafts what will it do to the overall club feel?

Am thinking of upgrading to the G-425’s and passing the G-700’s to the wife since she hits her short irons about 10myards longer than her G’LE’s.

Yes there are graphite shafts heavier than 92. Recoils for to 125, I believe the steelfiber do as well. I haven’t looked into the shafts from Accra and some Of the other brands that have recently released graphite shafts but would imagine they also go to 125.

Graphite will swing weight out slightly different in irod heads. When I had recoil 110s in titleist CBs they swing weighted at d1 without having to add tape or tip weight to all but the 6i. In my Miuras they swing weighted slightly heavier.

Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but adding weight to the head isn’t going to affect shaft flex but will change the swingweight and possible balance of the club.  Heavier shafts may affect the swingweight in positive weigh for you but may not.  The realty is that it’s probably more cost effective to get fit for the g425s and buy them than to reshaft the g400s, unless you are doing all the reshafting yourself

I agree. Unless you’re restarting them yourself, you’re probably better off selling old, and buying new, plus you’ll be better prepared in a fitting this time.

If they were steel no problem, graphite, I will surely ruin a couple. Tried to swing my G700’s and don’t know if it’s mental, but, yeah, tough to feel head position, feels more like am swinging a stick.

Think I’ll do that, go give the G425’s a shot next week.

thanks
