Never heard of that shaft... but then I'd not heard of Accra until last month.  So many options.  Have fun with it and remember to do your spy club duty and report back 👍.

Choking down I see 😉.  Those are some crazy good numbers!  I presume this meets all USGA requirements?

That's going to be a fairway finding monster for you. I enjoyed the fitting write-up, you did an excellent job going through all your options and describing the process. It'll be fun to see how it works for you when you get it on the course.

Only requirements for the PGA, IIRC, are for the head CCs, CT, etc, so no worry there, and with shafts it’s just length: no longer than 48”. Heck, even long drive has the same requirements. The heads they use aren’t illegal, they’re just lofted way lower, and weighted differently.

As you can see from the pics in the fitting thread, it wasn’t necessarily “hotter”, just a HECK of a lot straighter.

With this covid fitness routine of sitting on my rear, I wouldn't be able to get that monster out of the bag, much less swing it.  Looking forward to seeing the results!

Looks great and I know you have some serious speed so just wondering for this shaft with the heavy head weight do you still feel it load or is it tough to feel that? Also I agree with a head weight and total weight that high sledgehammer is the right name.

I don’t feel any load, but I DO feel the head throughout the entire swing. It’s one reason why I think I centered it so often in the fitting. It’s a great feeling, honestly. Reminds me of the little steel Golfsmith driver I played in HS and college. I had it COVERED in lead tape and it was on a TT DG x100 shaft! Thing weighed a ton, but I loved that feel of the club head.
I am the 5th person to have this set-up (not the same driver heads).... I’m by far the slowest of the group! Crazy.

Sounds like you were able to replicate that feel you enjoy which is great. I have much less speed so almost never feel a shaft load, so I have gotten use to feeling the club head in the swing as well.

I don’t really “load” a shaft either. I’m coming hard from the top, but it’s not like Sergio, or Cameron Champ, pulling down tight, and Robert commented on it in the fitting. Both Ben the fitter, and Robert the club designer/builder both said my swing was so much more consistent with this club from their visual standpoint. They immediately saw different delivery with my Ventus, and the other much lighter shafts/clubs. They said it looked like it was just falling on plane every time with this heavier build.

Really could be it’s that same sensation I had 35 years ago!

For sure I totally get that at my last iron fitting when I ended up with the i500s dispersion and consistency was much better with S300s than even DG 120 S or the stock AMT offering. For some people that total weight can really improve consistency, best option is to test as you did. Hit em long and straight for those of us that can't (its snowing out my window right now so that includes me)

35 years ago!?  Dang you're old!😜

The more I think about the concept, the more I like it.  Looking back I have started to notice a similar pattern in my own game and that's I gain consistency gaming a heavier and firmer shaft that theoretically "shouldn't" match my swing.   The more I play and tinker;  I've noticed that I have a hard time finding consistency in irons/woods with shafts that are lighter or with a softer more flexible design.  It's almost like I lose concept of timing and where the clubface is in the downswing. Especially if I ramp up or dial back from a stock swing.

Are you planning to do a control with a "normal" x-flex shaft with the cobra?

No. The inside of the head has weight added, so X flex shafts would need to be tipped, etc. The control, not a true one for sure, was the Honma with the Ventus Black 7X. I can hit the Honma a mile too, just left AND right. The goal was to shrink the dispersion as much as possible, and to see if I had the speed to make this thing work for me.

The theory here is that the only thing that matters about a head is its weight. The overall build needs to be the same, but the actual head that’s used doesn’t make a difference. Originally, we were going to put this shaft into a Titleist 905r 9.5 I had, taking the head weight up to that 215g-220g area.

Very interesting read.  I loved to see the thinking a bit different from the norm and getting you into something where the results were just outstanding.  There aren't many fitters I can think of that would have tried something so unique.  Hoping the results continue for you and only get better on the course!

And most Long Drive fitters haven’t done this either. Robert proved it worked with guys years ago. They were longer when they went from 48” to 47” and increased the weight. The key is the center-strike. Smash is at its highest, AND that strike has the greatest force possible behind a ball creating maximum energy. It’s physics.

Went back today to the simulator I usually play and brought my sledgehammer. This sim usually shows me hitting the longest drives around 290-295 (maybe 10 yards of roll) and I can be straight, left or right off the tee with driver. My former player joined me today and we played 27 holes.
Um, what I saw in the fitting is EXACTLY what I saw today: dead STRAIGHT. Even two low heel shots I hit were 40 yards shorter than normal, but, went dead straight. Then, the longest drives were over 300! 305, 307, 308, 302, 300, 308, 307... Unreal. I was cutting corners and hitting the ball right where I had the sim aimed!
I’ll post what I scored in the “How’d you play thread”, but, wow. Yes, this wasn’t outside yet, but I’ve been all over the place with the Honma/Ventus on this sim in the past. Never have I hit more than maybe 2 fairways in-a-row.

Great initial “round” with it today.
