Well, the video certainly dosen't leave one with the impression they care very little about process and quality controls... but using my favorite line with my engineering teams, "the devil is in the details".  It would be cool if Callaway invited Tony, Adam, et.al. in for a review of the operation and discussion about why they might be seeing differences.  I mean they must know exactly what Tony is doing and can easily replicate his test methods. I don't know for certain, but believe MGS is the single "independent source" looking at golf ball products.  Presuming they have data to support the recent claim, why not show it to the folks who challenged your products quality in the first place?

Yup, I had grave misgivings when I saw the commercial as a big play to upend mygolfspy findings. I don't buy Callaway balls. That being said, I haven't bought balls in years. Find to many on my course. Other than driver distance, see no real difference in my game with picked up Pro V1 or V1(x), Callaway Soft and Soft(x), and TP5 and 5x. Sure, slight differences in height and distance with all clubs and characteristics around the green, but, the only ball wobble I have ever seen in my hits or hits from the people I play with are, well, shanks. I appreciate the testing, but I still think until mygolfspy uses x-rays instead of cutting a ball open, and then taking the off center balls to an Iron Byron, testing them in a scientific manner with balls found to be "passing", the actual affect of off center layers is empirically debatable. I understand my play wouldn't be called high level, but a wobble that affects ball flight would be noticeable.

Driver: Callaway Epic 9 degree, stiff (set at 10 degrees with the movable weight in the center}

FW: Callaway Epic 3,5, heaven wood w/ regular shaft (driver shaft in 3 wood, 3 wood shaft in 5 wood, 5 wood shaft in heaven wood, all three set at neutral plus 1 degree)

Hybrids: Callaway BB19 4,6,7 (4 set at neutral plus 1 degree and 6 and 7 set at neutral minus 1 degree for gapping purposes)

Irons: Callaway Rogue ST Max 8, 9, PW

Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM6 50,54,58

Ball: Titleist Pro V1, 1X, Vice Pro Plus or anything I find that day and try out for the fun of it (I haven't bought balls with my own money in at least 10 years)

Crazy claims from Callaway are nothing new.  Its one of the many reasons why Ive never been a huge fan of Callaway.

Yeah, my already somewhat lukewarm opinion of Callaway is diminished by this marketing smoke and mirrors, but I'm one customer. My next driver probably won't be a Callaway.

You can't inspect quality in. There's a lot of emphasis on testing in the video above, but quality does NOT come from testing. Quality comes from materials and the manufacturing process, at most testing reveals how variable the process is and when it's "out of spec." Poor sampling, insensitive testing, wide specs and/or what's done with out of spec product all impact customer quality.

The video never addresses concentricity that I noticed?

If you want to compare quality, compare all the specs and conformance of each ball - of course you will never see that published EVER. The MGS Ball Study gives you a glimpse, more than any other source I know of.

Any major ballmaker, and many others probably, could make a video just as impressive to the layperson as the one above.

The only major brands I admire are Ping, Titleist and Mizuno. There are only two ballmakers I admire, Snell (best value) and Titleist (best quality, but too expensive for me). YMMV

 • Titleist TSR2 16.5º HZRDUS Red 60 CB 6.0 & TSR2 21º HZRDUS Black 4G 70 6.0 w Lamkin UTx Midsize

The ad won't stop me from buying or playing Callaway gear, but it's a head scratcher for sure. Not sure where they got the "data" that backed their claim or who they thought they'd be able to get with that one.

I think Adam and the guys hit the nail on the head when they said it’s easier to chip into Titleist’s ball market share with bs hot takes than investing in their manufacturing to actually make a comparable product: not sure anyone can make a ball clearly superior to ProV1. AsMiddler mentioned, quality doesn’t come from catching mistakes. I don’t game any Callaway clubs anymore, but I’ve always had a soft spot for chromesoft X, the ball I broke 80 with. After this I’ll be sticking to Snell MTB-X.

I agree with your comments. Well stated. Titleist been doing golf balls decades and have perfected their processes/learned things over time.

Kinda like Ping with its clubs/golf bags. Regardless if you play those brands, they have earned respect and most agree they have done it the right way.

Personally like ChromeSoft but prefer Snell (just score better with it). Sincerely hope Callaway succeeds with a quality golf ball product, I mean they are doing a lot things right with their AI, face technologies. Obviously golf ball business for Callaway is good but their golf ball business could be legitimate contender for #1 ball on market if they get everything clicking. Sincerely hope they do. Consumers win with more quality choices.

Posted this in the Farmers thread, but saw the Callaway vs Titleist graph during a commercial today while watching the tournament. They’re going forward with it, not hiding it!
