Suggestions for a blade head for a junior golfer

Kicking around an idea. I know that I read the week of the PNC event that Tiger has Charlie playing a more bladed iron to develop his skill. I'm interested in building up a set for Kirke, even if he only uses them as a training tool.

So I'm looking for suggestions: what make/model of iron would be:

• the profile of a traditional blade or minimal CB
• relatively light weight in the head
• and common and old enough that I could snag a set on eBay cheaply.

Footnote: if you've got a set of heads that matches this description that you're looking to unload, let me know.

I donated my P790's to a local kid a couple of years older than Kirke when Covid hit because it was the only thing he could do. I am willing to donate my 585/785 combo set after I figure out if the ZX7's are right for me (a month or so). I know the specs won't match but you will be able to build them up to fit. Don't know if this is what you are looking for.

If it's not a Mizuno, he's going to wonder why you did him dirty as a kid once he grows up. "DAD WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME SOONER?"

Jokes aside (kind of), I think Mizuno also makes different headweights (A or B). They use the lighter (B) headweights in longer shaft builds to keep the overall club weight similar I believe. I'm sure you can find a good deal on SOMETHING from the MP lineup across the years that will fit the criteria at a good price? Maybe this?

32's or 64's were my first thought.

Why not do the Sub70 blade route? You obviously have a relationship with Jason, so he can likely set you up well

First, I want to thank you for what is an incredibly, remarkably generous offer.

But second, I think it's too generous, especially for an experiment like this. I'm really fishing for something (maybe) older and maybe even slightly less forgiving than the 585s. I'm thinking about someone who has a set of bladed-ish, unforgiving iron heads from the 80s sitting in a box that hasn't seen daylight for a decade.

Seriously, @THEZIPR23, I'm just blown away that you'd offer those Srixons to Kirke. I'm struggling to find words for how kind an offer that is.

Something from the Mizuno line was a thought that had occurred to me, but I wasn't familiar enough with the model numbers to figure out where to start my eBay searches. This is a big help; thanks, gentlemen!

I could absolutely see us going that route for Kirke's clubs as he gets into his teenage years (this season, he'll be 8), and I want to put him into good sets of clubs fitted for him as he grows without breaking the bank.

Keep me posted. Only 4 & 5 in the 585. They will serve a much better purpose with him than me blowing the cash on another golf thing. Plus when he makes the tour I could use that leverage.

Might even want to consider a set of McGregor irons from back in the day.  You can find some rather cheap VIP irons I believe which were a dream when they first came out.  But I agree with the other comments that Mizuno's were my first thought as well.  Namely because price wise, as you mentioned, you can find some of the older blade types for relatively cheap.

Ha! I still play those! They aren't a true blade. Mizuno calls them a player's cavity. They do have a slight cavity, but.......................................

Pretty sure Kirke's already angling to have these as his gamers and not just as a training aid. We'll see how that goes.

On the loft-jacking front: here's the 3 iron from that set compared to the 5 iron from my current Sub 70 699 Pros:

Shafts are the same length. They appear roughly the same loft, though that's tough to eyeball. In this picture, you might even argue that the 3 iron has less loft than my 5 iron. But the 3 iron head is absolutely terrifying tiny.
