Jabrowni
Just bought a new set that comes with a approach wedge(50 degrees). Wondering if it’s worth getting a 52 degree along with a 56 and a 60 OR just getting a 54 and a 58. Quote Link to comment
Bossfan
I go 50, 54 and 58. I don’t hit a 60 degree very well. This set up works much better for me. It seems kind of silly to me to have a 50, 52, 56 and 60 because the gapping would be just odd. Watchnut33
If you’re set on a 60 you’d be better served getting a 54 or 56 and bending it to 55 so you have consistent gapping. I go with 50, 54 and 58 personally. Shapotomous
4* gapping on wedges seems to be pretty common, I go 49, 53, 57. On my 57 I used a grinder to get more heel relief so I can easily lay it open if I need more loft for a flop shot. GolfSpy_SHARK
So you have 3 available slots? Could always add a 60 if you wanted but I would probably go 54/58 and maybe add a hybrid on the top end sirchunksalot 1 Quote Check out my reviews: G710 Irons Official Review I MC Shaft & V Series Putter Official Review 2022 Forged Tec's Official Review I Nitron Push Cart Official Review WITB: Weapons of grass destruction (link to WITB) Traverse is filled with all this shiny metal and tracked by RadSpeed 8* - MotoreX F1 6X SIM 3W - Project X HZRDUS Green U505 Driving Iron 17* - Project X HZRDUS Black SpeedZone 4H - Project X HZRDUS Black 2022 King Forged Tec's 4-PW - KBS $ Tape 130 48 (SM8), 52 & 60 (SM7) - Nippon Modus 125 S ER2VI PROV1X #19 Are you a veteran? GolfSpy BOS
If the GW is 50 I’d just go 54 and 58. Another thing to think about is the loft of the PW. My PW came in at 44* and the GW was 49*. I had it bent to 48* and added a 52, 56, and 60. Technically I have two “gap” wedges but I like that I have 4 degrees through all my wedges leaving me with nice 15 yard gaps on full swings. For a few rounds I actually had both an AP2 50* gap wedge and a 52* SM7. Those two were really close and wouldn’t have been together all season. sirchunksalot, Buffly and GolfSpy_SHARK 3 Quote Epic Max LS 10.5 - Motore X F3 6X | Speedzone 5-wood - Ventus Blue 8S | TSi3 20* Hybrid - KBS Proto 85S SMS Pro 4-PW - Steelfiber i110S | MG3 Raw Black 50.09, 54.11, 58.11 - DG TI S200 ER2B | Pro V1x | NX9 Slope | Jones Trouper R | CaddyLite EZ v8 Link to comment
cnosil
I read all of these posts about what degree wedges to play and everyone always suggests the 3,4,5 degree gapping thing. The actual answer should be determine what distances you want to hit and how you want to use the wedge. As a starting point, try X degree wedges and then hit them to make sure you accomplish your goal. The ball reacts differently off your irons than it does wedges. For example the extra spin on a wedge may not give you the distance that you expected. Just like every other club in the bag, you actually have to hit the club to see if it is right. The conflict that arises from such a methodical approach makes my spider sense about the feeling of wanting to stick to a mantra provided by manufacturer propaganda seem flappable. The warm fuzzy feeling I have when I think about having the same wedge set as my favorite superstar gives me extra confidence when I stand over a shot. The thought that practice, training, or logic might actually outweigh my feelings bursts my proverbial bubble. Hahaha Golfer walks into a golf store, "I want the new golf club my favorite player is using..." Stop me if you've heard this one? The intelligent golfer, like @cnosil, walks into a golf store, "These are the scenarios where I struggle, so I would like a fitting and some lessons..." I am not discounting what has worked for anyone as anecdotal evidence. My own experience is having drastically different bounce options gives me the versatility I need and loft is less of a concern. I have grown to respect the players who take the effort to get clubs fit to them, and it is evident in their scores. I'm going to get a fitting for the first time this year... Goal for 2021. I started golfing 3.5 years ago. Trying to fit myself costs much more in trial and error than it would just seeing a pro. vtpachyderm
I have a 50, 56, and 58 wedge setup. This is purely based on my comfort zone of playing shots from 100yds and in and the type of shot I'm trying to hit. The 50 is probably the only one I might hit a full swing to try to eke out as much distance as I can from it if the need arises and my PW (45) might be too strong e.g. when it's windy. The 50 and 56 cover pretty much everything except for around the green, where I'll use the 58 if I absolutely have to. Contemplating taking the 58 out on some courses, and replacing it with a driving iron or another hybrid. I try to simplify the bottom end of the bag to prevent myself from getting too cute with the shot :-). Quote Trying to play as much golf as I can up in Trondheim, Norway.
