One of my regular golf partners is 75-76, shoots his age or better often (much better than me), and he’s never had an ace - makes me sad. He’s been within inches but never an ace. This reminds me of my neighbor I played with as a kids, a good player who didn't get his first until his 70s, my only regret is that I was not able to be there to see it, but my Dad was which was great. Still aceless myself, like others have been close and have holed out from the fairway from 150 out. But that single digit on the scorecard will need to wait. Odds of a hole in one, albatross, condor and golf's other unlikely shots (pga.com) This is the first I'd heard the term "a condor" in golf. That would be the loneliest thread on the forum . Seriously, I cannot think of any par 5's on courses I've played that can be reached off the tee. I remember one hole that had a jack-knife like dog leg but it had PNW Douglas Fir trees protecting the shortcut. It would have required a crazy high shot with some considerable carry distance to reach. No doubt some have the capability but damn few - making the odds even lower. There was a story a few weeks ago about a guy who made a condor on a par 6 in the SF Bay area. IIRC, it plays downhill, and the cart path crosses twice, and his drive got both. This was during one of my final rounds of the year up at Point Sebago in Maine. the crown bottle was not mine. And I cannot confirm how much was in the bottle at the start of the round, but this was on our second 18 for the day: the ball landed short, skipped past, and came back down the slope back in front of the hole. Never been closer than that!
