Well, I guess I lied.  My wife told me this morning that it's the 5th anniversary of my last Ace (she keeps records like that).  Since there hasn't been much activity posting here lately, I thought I would give you losers some incentive... here is my Ace photo on our #12 hole from 2017:

She also told me something I had forgot.  On the prior hole... the par 4 #11... I chipped in for birdie.  When we finished the round, she told her sister "there will be no living with him now".  Well, she is still here.

Jeebus, as I started reading this post I thought "oh no you didn't... get another".  Tell Martha I think that she recalled a date like this from 5 years ago is, well, really weird .  We may have to consider putting an expiration date on HIO's.

Damn this cursed game! I've got a handful of pics like this where I use my foot for reference but this is by far the closest one. That's my pitch that is directly behind the flag. 148 yd PW (with the wind) with a 1' jump backwards and almost in..

Sam, I am not sure whether you have addressed this; have you ever had an ace in all of those rounds of golf that you have played?

i have been extremely close (inside of a foot at least four times and hit the flagstick on the fly or on one or two bounces a few more), but none of them went in the hole. Twice this year (May 3 at Legends Parkland Course in Myrtle Beach - 4” right of the pin from 174 yards with a 7-iron and July 14 at Royal Troon in Scotland - rolled just past the flagstick and came to rest behind the stick from 182 yards with a 6-iron), I almost got my first ace, but still have none.

... Yup addressed it every chance I get.  I have dunked the ball twice and it came out both times. I have had 2 sit on the lip where we had to get down to eye level to make sure it wouldn't fall. I have been inside a foot too many times to count. The most egregious insult from the Golf Gods is on a short par 3 I spun a wedge back off the green and in the water with a front pin, re-teed and hit just past the hole and it spun back in for a "hole in one stroke" that of course counted as a par.

Ha! I witnessed my former mentor and head pro, Mike Durst, get an ace at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee. I just remember it being such a surreal moment to see it in person … and it was his first as well. That’s the first and only time I’ve seen an ace thus far. 

First time post on this thread, and I like the term ‘graduated from this thread’ … but get this, my ace at Toddy Brook during the summer of ‘21, I DID NOT see it drop into the hole!

I have no idea if the ball screamed into the hole, died into the hole, 360 wrapped itself into the hole, hit the flag stick mid bounce and into the hole, rode a high bank and broke into the hole, or if some fox squirrel inadvertently kicked it into the hole.

I read about a course in the Far East. Apparently tradition there is if you get an ace that the caddie gets some big bonus tip. There is a blind par 3, with an extremely high number of aces. Apparently the caddies team up, one hides in the woods near the green, and if a ball is reasonably close they run over and put it in the hole, and then split the tip.

#13 at Timberline in Calera, AL (near Birmingham). 191 yards, back pin location. Also came inches from an eagle on another hole. Maybe next time!

Closest I have ever come. 128 wind left to right. Had a baby draw on my PW and spun it buck just past the hole on the right coming back....What could have been.

Yes I made the bird, as I told @GolfSpy_BOS I only miss 2' or more birdie putts

... We are life long members of a pathetic club ain't we? I thought I had a chance to cancel my membership yesterday when I had 110 to a very difficult par 3 and every side is a false side so the ball will roll off the green after landing within 2 feet of the pin. But it was a middle/front pin placement, one of the few flat spots and my GW never wavered from the flag. Ball mark was 1" to the left and with hard fast greens stopped about 5 feet above the hole. From the tee, the flag stick and the bright Phoenix sun (98*) blocked our view of the ball so we all thought it might ... it could ... there was a chance ... and when we got bout 20yds off the tee we could see the ball above the hole. As my East Coast Elitest friend said after playing the Prestigious Maplegate Country Club ... What could have been.

Looks like that was about 8” to 10” from the cup — MAX! Very nice, lacassem!!! Last May, in Myrtle Beach on the Legends Parkland Course, I hit one right next to the hole, about 4-5” (you couldn’t fit two golf balls between where my ball came to rest and the edge of the hole). I have still not had a hole-in-one, but I have been inside two feet several times.

It was definitky within my foot putter length!

I have had several within 4-5’ but on 1 inside 2’ and this broke that record for sure

Glad it didn’t go in though, I was by myself and I would never hear the end of that one!

Nice shot Mark!  It's cool that it spun back past the hole in a teasing neener, neener, neener way. I'd have given you the putt then let you putt it.  I simply see no reason for a guy to get kicked in the willy twice on the same hole .

... As an 18.6 index your ace was pure luck. LUCK!!! Probably hit it on the toe. Hit it thin and it rolled on the green and in the hole after you looked away in disgust. Or you hit a fairway wood from 115 yds. Probably late in the day and knowing you were well over 100 you didn't care and just took a reckless swing. Maybe hit a tree and bounced on the green. Or skipped over water. I am guessing something like that. Yea, that's probably what happened. 

(When you post it was actually a really good shot and you are just trolling us tortured souls for fun I will put my fingers in my ear and NaNaNaNaNa drowning out your most excellent accomplishment)

My playing pard is an 18 index and last Spring he hit a beautiful 4 hybrid from 176 with a slight fade, landing just on the green to a back pin and it rolled like a putt right in the hole for his first and only HIO. While it isn't rare for him to hit a good shot, it isn't rare for him to hit a bad shot either. So hang in there because you have a good a chance as anyone!

my second time out on the course in life, 28 years ago, on literally my first GIR on a par 3, all 4 of us in the group thought I had a perfect hole in one after I I landed one 15 feet short at  least and we all watched as it rolled towards the cup. To me, and my young eyes, it appeared to roll through the center of the hole and flag, as if an optical illusion. The whole group was screaming, and then groaning as it continued to to roll on the other side of the hole for another 18 inches. Closest i’ve gotten since is 4 feet. Missed the putt, and then got my first par. It was a couple years after that before I had my first bird. I think I hit a 146 that day, or possibly a 148.
