The Still Aceless Thread

I’ve been golfing off and on since 1988. See below for the closest I’ve ever come to an ace. It happed last Fall. I hit the stick.

I understand completely!  The closest birdie putt I have had in my 50-year history of playing the game was about 8 inches from the cup!!  Why oh why???

Another heart stopper today. 6i released across and behind the hole but from the tee the view legitimately made my heart stop for a second as it crossed over the hole.

Like many people in this thread, I’ve been playing for over 20 years, much of that time as a high single-digit/low double-digit handicap, and never had an Ace  (nor an Eagle for that matter).  I’ve had people joke that I play boring golf because I hit the ball so straight, yet still no HIO’s. Several close calls for both Aces and Eagles…including a robbery via the COVID collar popping a ball up in the air just like hitting a cart path.   I’ve even saw one from a guy that was not a good golfer, had never played the course we were on, and was built and looked like Santa Clause. Like someone else on here mentioned, if I do finally get one, it will be during a lonely round with nobody to witness it.

185 par 3, two hops, hits the pin and drops and inch from the cup. That along with a few roll overs are my almost, but not quite

Just found this thread yesterday and I can sadly say that I've been golfing since I was three and have only really had one legit chance and it lipped out and rolled 4 feet away. So here's to hoping finding this thread will give me some better luck.

I have been so close so many times. 2 lipouts, one that one hopped and stopped 3 inches from the lip.. looked in because of the flagstick shadow. I have holed out for eagle once though from about 130 yards out. Still waiting.

#7 Carolina Trace - Creek.  158 yards to a front pin, downhill.  Hit a 3/4 swing 8 iron (hit it hard though) and it took one hop about a foot back of the pin and dropped.  I was in complete disbelief.

 

I'm convinced now more than ever that these things are luck and not skill.  Consistently being close to the hole...that's skill (not me).  Going in?  Luck.

Had to wait until I retired and play about 250 rounds a year for the last 3 years. Had an albatross before but it does not seem to hold up to a hole in one in the golf circles. Got mine in April and it was a decent shot but I have hit many better that did not go out. Just took a nice kick in the correct direction. Convinced that it takes a great deal of luck. On the other hand, a friend of mine has 8. @#$%$

This is the closest I've ever come. It ruined me for a while. Every time I stepped up to a par three I thought, I got this". Luckily I've let that go now.

That would mess with me too. Happy for a tap in bird though, right?
