My most recent genuinely close call was June of last Summer, so it won’t count toward the ‘no cigar’ award @GolfSpy MPR suggested.

But considering @fixyurdivot started this thread, it’s kinda neat that mine actually occurred up in his neck of the woods.

Columbus, MT - dreamweaver 7-iron from 175 yards. The twosome in front waved me through and briefly celebrated before (according to them) the noodle spit my ball back out of the hole. Still aceless...

Yes, I recall we had tried to get together in Bozeman but your travel plans changed... maybe next time.  Nice "close encounter" 👍.

REMOVE THIS MAN!

Thanks, I needed that!

My wife can't participate either.  After playing golf for 56 years and having a lot of close calls, she finally got one last year.  When she got it, she looked up at the heavens and told her dad that she finally did it.  Her dad was a scratch golf and club champion at 3 country clubs in the Spokane area.  As she did that it just happened that a Navy tanker plane doing touch and go's at out airport flew over... her dad was a Navy commander in WWII.

Uggg [emoji51].  I would rather not have known and simply added it to my growing list of close encounters.

Yeah it really sucked because it was in my Men’s Golf Association event and we have a hole in one pool.....it was over $3500 at that time [emoji15]

Should that be the loser of this thread?

If I'm not mistaken, the winner here is also, in a painful sense, the loser as well.

Albatross > Ace

I had an ace 53 years ago, still waiting on my second, I’m 66. One of my regular golf partners is 75-76, shoots his age or better often (much better than me), and he’s never had an ace - makes me sad. He’s been within inches but never an ace. He says almost every time he’s tees up on par 3’s he thinks maybe this time...

This reminds me of my neighbor I played with as a kids, a good player who didn't get his first until his 70s, my only regret is that I was not able to be there to see it, but my Dad was which was great. Still aceless myself, like others have been close and have holed out from the fairway from 150 out. But that single digit on the scorecard will need to wait.

I found this link on the PGA website that talks about odds.  Odds of a hole in one, albatross, condor and golf's other unlikely shots (pga.com)

This is the first I'd heard the term "a condor" in golf.  That would be the loneliest thread on the forum 🙂.  Seriously, I cannot think of any par 5's on courses I've played that can be reached off the tee.  I remember one hole that had a jack-knife like dog leg but it had PNW Douglas Fir trees protecting the shortcut.  It would have required a crazy high shot with some considerable carry distance to reach.  No doubt some have the capability but damn few - making the odds even lower.

Chris @Thin2win, can you imagine holing out that 777 yard, par 6 we played in ID in two? If memory serves we both hit drivers twice and still had 3w's into the green.

There was a story a few weeks ago about a guy who made a condor on a par 6 in the SF Bay area. IIRC, it plays downhill, and the cart path crosses twice, and his drive got both. The green is then uphill, and he didn't see it go in, but another group did.

Can I imagine hitting 2 consecutive 385 yard shots....? Nope my imagination apparently has limits and that exceeds them. Kyle Berkshire maybe.

Okay, I take it back... The fairway would need to be parking lot hard. And I'd need the better part of a tornado tail wind.

Well it’s winter so I’m not going to have one closer than this for a while! This was during one of my final rounds of the year up at Point Sebago in Maine.

the crown bottle was not mine. And I cannot confirm how much was in the bottle at the start of the round, but this was on our second 18 for the day:

the ball landed short, skipped past, and came back down the slope back in front of the hole.  Never been closer than that!

how are you liking the SkyTrak?  Do you have a projector set up or hit into a net and view the shot on a monitor?
