Closest I've been in a long time today, about 7" above the hole on a 182 yard 5 iron. At least I got the birdie. Sigh!

Birdie is good. Better than @GolfSpy MPR, his was a sad miss

I had a close call last night & while it was in the air I'm thinking don't you dare go in.   I went out late for some practice by myself and was just jumping around to different holes to practice playing different types of shots.  I thought it would be my luck for this one to go in under those circumstances.

The hole lasered at 125 over a ravine & into a slight breeze.  The 9 iron was tracking just to the right of the hole and the green runs to the left, it took a little hop & stuck with no roll to this spot.

For a buddy's bachelor party we hit up a local course for a little scramble. Hit this stock PW, little fade that rode the wind and danced right near the hole. Ball mark is the fresh one about 2' short and left of the hole, ball ended up about dead straight below the hole about 2'. Can't say I didn't have some pretty crazy thoughts when it was in the air!

Uphill, 139 yards, need 132 to carry greenside bunker.     Almost dunked it,  but ended up 4'5" from the hole;   earned $25 for closest to the hole in my golf leagues end of year tournament.   Still Aceless

Yesterday I played 27 holes at Madison Meadows.  A pretty average round and the first with the swing weight adjusted ZX5's.  The wind started blowing pretty hard right after starting the 3rd nine and it was a 2 club adjustment on several holes. On the par 3 #8 (hole 26 for me), the wind was sideways L to R.  Shotscope had it at 141 yards. I had hit my 8i the previous two loops and grab it again.  I played for my fade and a bit more left for the wind.  My divot was 2 inches from the cup, did not hit the flagstick, and the ball ended up about 8 feet away in the thick rough apron .  I gutted the chip and 2 putted for a bogey.

I know, pics or it never happened.  We typically walk our carts over to #9 and carry a putter and wedge over to the #8 green as you go down a grade and then back up to the green. The phone was with the cart, I was pooped and, while I thought about making the slog back to get it, decided my word would have to do.

No. I’m about 8 years into playing golf and it still hasn’t happened. The best I’ve done is a hole out on a par 4 from 150 or so.

Do aces stop counting once the course is bulldozed?

There was a gorgeous Geoffrey Cornish executive length course in Middleton, Massachusetts that was an absolute joy to play.  I made it a point to get there at least a couple of times every season.

Now it's gone, and when one gets to a certain age and loses something, one tends to reflect on all the other unwelcome 

changes that have occurred over years past.  But there's no point to it, so one doesn't dwell.

Still, seeing this thread reminding me me of a couple of aces that I made at Middleton where I've never made one any place else.  {Had a double eagle, though.]

8 years... just a wee sprout in the chase for the ace.  I'm in year 54 .

I get it.  It took my dad 30 years, and even then it was luck.  He hit probably 20 feet right of the pin, maybe more, but the ball caught the slope just right and we all watched it roll toward and into the cup.  As much as I play (about every day) I really hope it doesn't take 30 or even 54 years, but my grandfather would say if it weren't for bad luck we'd have no luck at all...(in jest, we've have plenty to be thankful for).

As I was checking in for my round yesterday, a course marshal came in to let the pro shop know that someone had just gotten a hole-in-one. The course gives out a picture of the hole with the date and yardage engraved on it when someone gets one. All that is good and fun, but the part that really caught my attention, was that the golfer "Dave" was 93 years old!!

I don't know if it was his 1st(which would be truly epic) or his 20th as he wasn't in the shop and I didn't met him. But getting one at 93, wow.

I have to think he is in a very select group of folks who get an ace in their nonagenarian years.  If you hear anymore about his feat through the local media, please share.

Had an almost ace the other day and I'm convinced it didn't go in because I turned around to clean my club before the ball stopped moving. Wind was blowing about 15 miles an hour to the left. Hit a crisp 8 iron to the front right of the green off of the front hump and let it trickle down towards the pin off that. Ended less than an inch short of the hole...

Came as close as I’ve ever been today, 7 iron from about 170. 3/4 little thin landed front left and rolled up. Was in a shady spot so couldn’t quite tell until we pulled up a little and was tucked right behind the pin. Used the putter was about 30”
