Get rid of my groves

Been away from golf for over 14 years. My driver is a 1998 Titleist 975D. I purchased a set of irons last year planning of getting the driver/3 wood this coming spring. Problem is, I have instead decided to spend this year’s budget on a golf club membership. Which leads me to my crazy idea. I used to do club repair back in the dark ages ... what if I took paint fill, used for the text & numbers on iron heads, to fill the sweet spot on my 975D? Does anyone think by filling the groves I might reduce ball spin ... like the grove less sweet spots on today’s clubs?

I’m thinking no. Grooves work by channeling water and gunk away from the hitting surface. Presumably, there’s no water and gunk between the club face and a teed up ball. BTW, studies have shown that you get as much spin with a club with no grooves IF there is no water or grass between the club face and ball.

I agree with everything u said ... yet some new drivers have eliminated grooves in the sweet spot.

Grooves were eliminated on driver faces because they were primarily decoration or to help with alignment and because driver faces have gotten thinner.

You should be able to fill them with paint, based on some google searches it may reduce spin slightly but probably won’t be any significant amount.
