fixyurdivot
Well, as if the distance thing wasn't enough, we now have rangerfinder-gate . Looks like they'll be allowed at the PGA Championship as a part of a let's test it out program. Personally, if they make the paceofplay-gate any worse, I'm all for their use. I use Shotscope V2 and find it of great help and definitely speeds my game (yes, I use to find the course markers and pace off distance). The use of this technology seems totally appropriate. What are your thoughts? tony@CIC 1 Quote G410 Plus, 9 Degree Driver G400 SFT, 16 Degree 3w G400 SFT, 19 Degree 5w ZX5 Irons 4-AW Glide 2.0 56 Degree SW (removed from double secret probation ) ER5v Putter (Evnroll ER5v Official Review) AI-One Milled Seven T CH (Currently Under Product Test)
null
I really dont care about rangefinders - but it is absolutely mindboggling that the tour allows green reading books during tournament play fixyurdivot, cbeau166, MattF and 3 others
DaveP043
I think it was inevitable that DMDs would become accepted at the top levels. I don't think it will speed anything up, I think this will be one additional bit of information to be collected and analyzed. The important distances are relatively "invisible" to lasers, like front edge, ridges, swales, etc, and are usually measured from the front edge in high-level yardage guides. So the players will still get the paced-off yardage from the caddie, in addition to the laser yardage to the flag. fixyurdivot, tony@CIC and cnosil 3 Quote Irons Titleist T200, AMT Red stiff Rogue SubZero, GD YS-Six X T22 54 and 58 wedges 7-wood 5-wood B60 G5i putter Right handed Reston, Virginia

revkev
I don’t really care. It does make sense though. It could help speed things up when someone gets well out of position. Other than that it is, as others have suggested, just another piece of information, information that was readily available with a yardage book. Consider that while watching a telecast the on course announcer has a device and knows exact yardage and that when you hear the conversation between player and caddy, they have the same actual yardage and are figuring what it’s playing, how the ball might react when it hits the ground, the probability of a squirrel running from the woods to the left might interfere with play, etc, etc, etc. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy fixyurdivot, MattF, tony@CIC and 1 other 4 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

revkev
What's the over/under on Reed "accidentally" using the slope feature? As funny as this is what advantage would there be to that? A caddy is going to give a far more accurate assessment about the impact of slope or wind than a range finder. Tour players already have a caddy. :)Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy DaveP043, MattF, tony@CIC and 1 other 4 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
cjeffs12
I don't hate the use of rangefinders, as long as they are used as a way to speed up the pace of play. If caddies are still going to walk off distances, and check yardage book, then why even bother having them? At the end of the day a slow player is going to be a slow player and a fast player will be fast, no matter what is given to them. I can't blame them for being slow with that amount of money on the line, but I think it is good they are trying something. Middler
Whatever speeds up the game...but the problem is the time most pros take on and around greens IMO. And nothing will change until officials put players on the clock and penalize them when they cross an agreed to limit. Not holding my breath... This is a decision by the PGA of America (not the PGA Tour, not the USGA) that effects exactly three tournaments. And to be clear, "they" cannot allow slope, nor can "they" eliminate "those books", at least not if "they" choose to use the Rules of Golf for their competitions. tony@CIC and MattF 2 Quote Irons Titleist T200, AMT Red stiff Rogue SubZero, GD YS-Six X T22 54 and 58 wedges 7-wood 5-wood B60 G5i putter Right handed Reston, Virginia
