Using Foresight/Trackman data to help fitting?

Recommended Posts

After listening to a couple of the recent NPG podcasts, I am curious if anyone has used their data obtained from a practice session in a Foresight Bay or Trackman when they went to get fitted.  Or if you have used your data from Arcoss or SS on course info when you go to a fitting session.  There seems to be a lot of discussion about how this is "the future" just wondering it "the future is now"?

Next question, has anyone used or bought a club from one of these online sellers that will send you clubs to try and you can keep or return as you choose.  I think at present it is mostly drivers, but I suspect it will grow.  I know sub70 has a trail program for other clubs than the driver.

TIA

I don’t think the future is now. It
Is technically possible for an expert to look at your launch monitor data and make some recommendations. I think that arccos type data would be a bit lacking as it primarily tracks distance and can show direction. It is missing things about the shaft and your swing Mechanics. They can however provide you with realistic data that you could use in the online fitting tools. No more saying that you hit the ball 260 when you can see you only hit it 220.

For more detailed fitting you have to know that launch monitors are different and therefore it may be hard to get measurable comparisons. You would also need the club data so not every launch monitor would work. If you had the right variables,
You could in theory manually plug the information into something like The Mizuno shaft optimizer and get some recommendations.

It is definitely possible, but the backend support isn’t in place

Can’t provide any Input on the trial programs, but I am pretty sure there are numerous sites that let you try shafts and global
Golf let’s you try clubs.

I have never used any launch monitor data from lessons or range testing in a fitting. In a fitting 9/10s my current setup is used to get a baseline then based on what I’m looking to get out of the fitting I let the fitter determine what direction to go in.

I haven’t used any of the systems to track club distance/data on the course and probably won’t and that data lacks any type of launch characteristics that would be used in a fitting.

As for using that data to potentially use a club trial service IMO doesn’t have a role because if I need more launch a shaft or club may or may not provide what I need because there’s no standard for launch and spin. Those are manufacturer dependent and the profile of the shaft might not work for my swing.
