Golf Pride MCC Plus 4 Grips Anyone?

Recommended Posts

I've been playing Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 in standard size and they feel pretty good.  During my testing of the ZX5's, the fitter asked about my grip size, looked at how I was gripping (space between fingers and palm) and asked how the club I was hitting felt.  It felt really good.  He then told me it as the TV but in "midsize"... which based on my hand dimensions is what he recommends.

So I'm looking at new irons that will have black matte finish composite shafts and thinking a grey color grip would look pretty nice.  I now see the "midsize" and "midsize Plus 4" options... the latter suggesting "how the pros get more power".  Anyone tried these?

Also, I started looking at Lamkin's website for options... any suggestions which are most similar to the TV 360?

Just installed these this winter in my all my clubs, just saving one for the driver since still testing some shafts. I had always played Tour Velvet but I tend to wear those out and was looking for something with cord. I like the cord on top and the bottom is nice and soft which I have liked so far. I have not had a chance to use them much while hitting but the feel on dry swings has been great. Not sure how much more "power" I am feeling but figured it was worth a shot. If you also like the Tour velvet a lot but want the plus 4 they have the tour velvet plus 4 now.

I prefer the midsize plus 4 to anything else.  I mistakenly went with the regular plus 4 on my irons and wish I would have went with the midsize.  For reference, I usually am a large in glove sometimes XL.  I tend to like the additional build up on my lower hand as well, especially in irons and wedges. For Hybrids, Fairways and driver I actually prefer the standard midsize so that I can turn my bottom hand through the ball on my follow through a bit easier if that makes sense.

I've had a lot of success in terms of longevity with these as well.  Going on my third season with the original iron grips and they still have plenty of grip to them.  Probably will need regripped after the end of this year so 3 years is about the max for me.  I tend to play about 25 times per year and hit the range about once a week or every other week during golf season.

If you like the feel of midsize, go with it.  As I read the Plus 4 stuff, they make the grip slightly thicker than "normal" under the right hand, when normal means the grip tapers from top to bottom.  Who knows if that would be a better choice for you, its worth a try, maybe just on one club.  I have a hard time believing the "more power" claim, but if it fits your hands right, its a positive thing.  As I read the GP website, the TV 360 is simply the Tour Velvet without any label, so that it looks the same no matter which angle you look from, making it a nice choice for adjustable clubs.  I'm not sure if offers any advantage in irons.

I'm a big proponent of Iomic grips, in my experience they start as tacky as any grip I've played, and STAY tacky for far longer.  I've had them on clubs for 3 years and they still remained properly tacky.  They do sell a Midsize grip, in a number of colors.

https://www.iomicusa.com/fullswing/sticky-mid

On the other hand, they're pretty expensive.  If you like them, and you tend to keep your clubs for a while, I think they're worth it.

I've played them for about 4 years now. They are my favorite grip in a long time, very comfortable and durable. I didn't like the MCC when they first came out but they've made a lot of changes in 15 years I guess. I used the Tour Velvets for years before switching.

I used to have two wraps added for the bottom hand on my woods and hybrid after my old fitter had me try his. When the plus 4 came out they were my go to for awhile on these clubs. I did the plus 4 on two irons sets. I liked the feel on the woods but went back to my standard grip on irons and eventually the woods too.

I don’t know if they gave me more power but the feel on the woods of having a little extra wrap on the bottom felt more comfortable.

I work PT doing club repair at a golf shop. I think I've installed more MCC+4 than any other grip. I'm not a fan of the MCC as my hands will sweat and I play in the rain and they just don't cut it for me. Rough on my hands as well. Others love the MCC.

I dont like the extra on the right hand except on the short irons. 9i and my wedges all have extra wraps bottom hand.

I've used MCC +4 for the past 4-5 years. I started out with the standard but quickly switched to midsize (I wear an XL glove). Love the grip! In really hot humid weather I don't wear a glove and the grips works well without slipping.  I generally buy a doz at a time from Golfworks.

I was looking at those too.  So the slightly raised ridge on the backside is to aide in locking the grip in place.  Any issues with that ridge wearing some high-spot wear points on the glove and/or fingers?

I'm also spying the Lamkin TS1+.  They don't look as pronounced as the GP Plus 4 and the color scheme is pretty cool.

Did you align the rib in the neutral position (180 deg. from top of the shaft), or did you rotate it to align the rib with your hands at address?  (my grip is strong, so if the rib is in the neutral position, would that work?)

At 1st I didn’t like the “Align” strip but after using these grips I’m happy with them.
What I like the most about them is the +4 (wraps) on lower section, has helped my grip. Also they stay dry in Florida heat.

Bill, those are the exact same ones I've been using for several years. I install them myself that way I can orient the alignment mark to my strong grip. I used the MCC +4 with the Alignment on my driver  but that didn't seem to have any benefit to I switched back to the regular +4s.  I ordered my new Cobra SZ's with the same except they came with the sensor in the grip.

I considered the "Align" version but they seem to have a higher amount of you'll either love them or not reviews, so I opted not to try across a full iron set.  Maybe on a driver regrip?  With my switch to the MMT80 shafts, I was looking for a color that would go well with the charcoal shaft.

I am liking the +4 feature is really good for me. I was using midsize grips but with the CCM +4 I use standard size grips.

I think there’re $2 more per grip.
I’ve noticed they do last longer than my previous grips and the work for me in the FL humidity.

I had been building up that portion of the grip for years. When the MCC4+ came it seemed a no-brainer and still is to this day for me

To the point the MCC4+ in the tour velvet style made its way onto the driver and feel good too.

I play with GP CP2 wrap and pro grips on my irons, but the MCC Plus 4 in my three Edison wedges.  They get a great deal of use and the MCC Plus 4 grips hold up well.  I don't wear a glove and have no problem playing in Key West in the dead of summer.

Lamkin used to make a Players + Cord grip that I used for a while. Before that, I used to put 4-5 wraps on the lower hand only. Golf Pride seems to be the only one now that has a cord of some sort with the reduced taper. It definitely helps take the lower hand out of the swing.
