Plastic Products

Hi. I know that a lot of golf courses are banning Plastic Products such as plastic tees and disposable plastic bottles. I would be interested in knowing what your golf clubs are doing about this if anything and of course your own personal views?

First I heard of this. I could understand plastic tees being restricted because they will not degrade. But there should be no reason to ban plastic bottles. What, they don't know how to recycle.  So that would mean no water, soda, Gatorade and such. 

But my course isn't doing anything like this.

First I've heard of is as well. I can understand plastic bottles but tees as well?

I played in a scramble this past summer at the course in Maine I played as a kid. The technology department at the local high school had designed and 3D-printed a bunch of tees that they were giving away. One of the pre-round announcements was to not use them because they mess with the mowing equipment. That was the first I’d ever heard about something like that, but I can see it being a problem. Water bottles are another story...

I haven’t heard of this either. My club provides plastic tees and sells drinks in plastic bottles. 
 

I do try to pick up tees left on the tee box and put them by the tee markers for people to hopefully see and reuse.

I am amazed that this comes as such a shock. I live in England and single-use (disposable) plastic products are very much frowned upon and are being banned by many golf courses. Plastic can only be recycled once or twice and most products are not recycled even once. Many find their way into water courses and eventually the sea. There are of course alternatives eg products that are made to be reused instead of discarded. In the case of tees then there are wood and bamboo alternatives.

There are parts of TN that are 20 years behind the times. We have a private garbage pick up that we pay for, its cheap. A guy comes in a pick up truck with tall wooden sides. But there is no such thing as recycling. Everything goes in a black plastic garbage bag. Super markets don't even have the plastic bottle returns that shread the bottles or cans. You have cardboard... throw it in the trash or burn it.

Give us another 20 years and we will catch up. I came from outside New York City by way of Connecticut. It was a culture shock. Lots of restraunts still don't have web sites or menu's on line. Nobody will deliver either.
