True Temper AMT Shafts

So, who all here on the forums uses the TT AMT series of iron shafts and what are your thoughts?  I've had my eye on the AMT Black set specifically.  I really like the idea of lighter weight long iron shafts to help generate club head speed and assist with getting the ball going.

A few years ago there were only two options, Dynamic Gold AMT and DG AMT Tour Issue. IIRC, True Temper updated and updated and released them with Red, black, and white options.   I may be wrong on this but I think the AMT white lineup is the closest version of the shafts in my irons (DG AMT).

I was quasi-fit for these, as they were the closest shaft in the lineup from Wilson that meshed with what the fitter had in his cart at the time (I was fit for the DG 105).  What I've found playing them over the past year is that either I've meshed with them or the fit happened to be right (I tend to favor DG shafts).

Over the past year I've found that these shafts largely perform well for from PW-5i from full, knockdown, 3/4 and half swings.  For whatever reason my 4i will not play ball on anything more than about a 3/4 swing.  I've found that I have a tendency to lose the longer irons more often if I get a little to quick in transition.  Personally I think this is due to the lighter weight, but I haven't proven it.   Overall, I like the shafts; they perform well for me through the bag except for the 4i.  As always YMMV.  If you can find a demo day with someone that carries TT shafts, give em a swing.

@JohnSmalls good stuff to know.  I've seen the other AMT shafts on "older" iron sets for sale and I've read what little TT has about them under their Legacy Shaft section for retired shaft lines.  Five iron down to pitching wedge is all I would have personally, I have yet to come across a four iron that I can hit AND have the ball go very far.  I have honestly wondered if there is such a thing as too light of a shaft for long irons, 5 and below (up?), so personally I would say that you may be on to something about the weight of your 4 iron shaft.

I’ve had them in two different sets of titleist irons. I had the original AMT which are now the amt white. They performed very similar to the non amt shafts for me as I had been an s300 guy for a long time. The lighter weight in the longer options was a nice change especially if feeling a little gassed near the end of the round.

Someone looking at going lighter and wanting a little more  launch and spin compared to the standard dg shafts the black is a good option.

I played the AMT S300 in the 716AP2's. They might not be the same shaft as today. The short-mid irons were ok, not better than standard s300's. The long irons played softer to me and ballooned with too much spin. I remember being able to back up a 4i on soft greens regularly. Flyers were a regular occurrence.

I appreciate the thought of lighter long iron shafts I just couldn't get them to work well in practice.

Playing the AMT Black S300 in my AP3s.  Love them in my 3-5 irons but would prefer the heavier DG Gold S300s.  I prefer to hit a more penetrating ball flight in my shorter irons and the AMT Blacks too spinny for me.

I was playing th tt new concept tour x! Shafts for a few months and really liked them.

Now I am playing the tour white amt.  I really like the shafts. I picked up my friends wedge for him and it felt so light. Its then I realized how much I like the heavier shafts on the scoring irons.  Tgese shafts are low launch low spin, very stable and my accuracy is better as well as distance and trajectory control. I just feel like I ca. Control shot much better with these tour white amt's

I am torn, I really like the amt tour white. But I also have a set of the TT new concept tour s300 shafts coming in for a set i am building.  I really lived that shaft in my jpx 919 hot metals, but I did hit them a little high. Not sure if that was shaft m, head or combo of two.

I will probable swap the shafts. Setup the new hot metal pro's i am getting qith the amt tour whites, then put the jpx-919 forged on the tt new concepts,  and see how I like them.been playing the forged with the amt tour white for about last 4 rounds and really like them.

Not sure why I feel compelled to try the hot metal pros.  Its a good thing I do not mind taking these clubs apart and putting them back together.

My gut tells me I will keep the hot metal pros with the amt shafts. And sell the forged with the tour concept shafts.

would you say that the AMT whites play similar to DG x100;s in the 7-W category?
