IIRC the first test with it was before shaft data was in there as well.  I’d be really interested to see if it results in a great fit.

of course if one were to lie when answering the questions that’s really not the fault of the system, so a trip to a sim go get some figures would likely be needed too.

could be a real good one though with the quality of drivers in the 2020 and 2021 class.

Some of the tests I'd like to see, and most if not all of them have been mentioned:

Srixon woods and irons

Personal launch monitors

Divot Board

Planemate

Sub 70 wedges

Tests involving Most Wanted winners

Another long game gapping test

Hitting mats and or nets

Adam Young Strike Plan

And of course, CCC#5

I think seeing some fairway vs hybrid tests would be very interesting. I would also love to see a driving iron just because I think it would be an interesting challenge. Also #CCC5 will be epic after the great examples we have seen.

Would love to see a company do a utility iron + hybrid test. Each tester gets both clubs in a similar loft and then testing centers around on course performance comparisons

A similar thought to mine, comparison of hybrid/utility iron with high lofted fairway wood (7,9 even 11)

We'll be starting the 2021 MyGolfSpy Forum testing season soon!

A little peak behind the curtain: I regularly have members ask what gear is on the calendar for the upcoming year. The total truth: we almost never know. The OEMs are really in the driver's seat when it comes to testing. Their priorities have a much greater impact on what we do in testing, and that's as it should be. (As a reminder, that's also why some tests are US only or have other restrictions.) An OEM might make a whole line of products, but they're going to offer for Forum testing the products that they want to create buzz about.

That said, I wanted to start a thread to ask, "What 2021 equipment do you want to see in this year's MGS Forum testing?"

Here are a couple of mine:

  • I'm drooling with anticipation over the Odyssey 2-Ball Ten line.
  • I want one OEM to do 47-48" drivers. Callaway would be an awesome candidate here, as they have a line of drivers specced for that length.
  • AutoFlex shafts? (a guy can dream, right?)

(And this is as good a time as any to offer this reminder: Forum testing isn't a contest. We choose testers who've been active in the Forum and have shown the ability to follow up on a review. Interested in testing? Increase your chances of being chosen by checking out this FAQ post.)

Here's your chance to make your appeal: what current year products would excite you as Forum tests?

Two types of wedges from the same OEM to test vs each other, or set PW vs same loft in none-set wedge

I’d LOVE to test a 47” Callaway against my sledgehammer!!! Two theories on long drive, head-to-head!

Mallet head putter vs blade putter, same specs, same OEM

MMT shafts in the higher weights like 125/130g

As others have said, Ping Long Game

Ping G425 irons

Ping i210 replacement, if coming to market

Srixon ZX5 and ZX7

Indoor putting mats

Outdoor mats

Something like a ProV and ProV1X test by same person to get stats over 2 mos to compare which balls are best for that golfer

Ooo! Soft ball vs Premium ball, same OEM, slower swing speed golfers!

Motorized “push cart”

Cobra long game! Would love to test rails on bottom vs my non-rail clubs!!!

TXG “Frankenwedge” test: shorter, lighter wedges vs current wedges in ones bag

Driver: Ping G430 Max 9*, Ping Tour 70X

Fairway: Ping G425 15*, Ping Tour 70X

I have done the Aimpoint Express clinic. Its life changing

...and now I'm intrigued by this.

I don't really have the logistics planned out in my head,  but some kind of combo set test to see where various forum members end up in a split set, or if they go full blend across 3 different offerings (i.e. zx-5, zx-7, and the z-forged in one set).

I really like the online lessons ideas you guys threw out there too, that would be kinda sick and maybe good marketing for some of those dudes so they might be interested and benefit from it? I know Jake Hutt is starting up a thing where they drive vans around to give people lessons. Full Trackman setup inside and everything. Might be cool for some of you mainland folks that could actually put in the work

Speaking of which... what is the market share of titanium/carbon electric trolleys in the US? Brands such as Jucad, Ticad, Kiffe, Golfquant, Galaxy Titan...

IMHO, these are much nicer, lighter and sleeker than Mottocaddy, Powacaddy, Bagboy and the like...

They are pricier though, starting at about EUR 1500 up to EUR 4000... would be cool to have these babies for testing 🙂

I’d settle for better, more in-depth testing.

For example the LM test reported results but nary a word on why one LM  was better than another.  It was like reading an junior high paper, no details, no depth.

Same for other categories such as the bag tests that just came out.

Tell us why not just pick a winner!

Actually our Forum Testing is the most indepth and quality testing of all forums.  Thats not me saying that, it’s several OEM’s that think so.

If you are talking about Forum Testing Realize that for products like Rapsodo, it’s likely the twsters don’t have another LM to compare it to.

In addition we stress to the testers that the review shouldn’t be a comparison to something else of the same kind.  It should focus mainly on the product and does it perform and/or do what the manufacturer claims and markets it to do.

Sounds like you would find the My Golf Spy Buyers guide helpful.  There are buyers guides for several products on the blogs main site.

I'd love to see forum user testing of products where fitting isn't a large part of the product selection process. Products like bag designs, rangefinders, training aids, buggies, sunglasses, online custom product option selection websites (like customising your ball graphics), and even products like suncream. These types of products could be given to testers and the tests are less likely to be undermined by it being the wrong type of product for the person.

I think the Most wanted tests like the recently released driver test are better done in that way rather than giving 5 people a wedge and asking them what they think. Sure, you will get information, but there is better data from controlled, systematic testing with those sorts of products.

The autoflex would be nice, but I’m particularly interested in the new speeder shaft.

Sik putters would be cool, or some evnrolls.

I think it would be awesome to test some of the golf exercise programs out there. I think it’d be super helpful to know the people who actually tried them and if the program helped their game and overall wellness. The marketing with those makes it hard to know who to trust.

Truly can’t beat the return of the CCC5. I stand by my claim from the end of CCC4, if I’m fortunate enough to be chosen, I’ll go to the cobra tour truck for the fitting! I’ll even like all of the @B.Boston memes! In all seriousness though, it was such an engaging feed last year, I hope it comes back and more tests can become that involved from a competition and non tester perspective.

Sounds like you would find the My Golf Spy Buyers guide helpful.  There are buyers guides for several products on the blogs main site.

Without a doubt the forum testers provide an in-depth look at products.  They are hands on for weeks or months.  Who doesn’t learn a ton from those folks.

The Buyers Guides do pick winners. The Best Driver and Bag reports are the latest example, right?  Although appreciated often there’s no reason given for why one product is better than another or where one product falls on its face.

We don’t see this as much in big categories such as drivers or irons but in the smaller categories, smaller ticket items we see this a lot.

I hear ya.  It would be nice on the Most Wanted to hear some individual tester feedback.  How it would be presented is another matter, as you know MGS is all about the data and not so much the personal feedback..like "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it"   testing your age there with that reference , and giving mine away.

Also we wouldn't want it to be like the GolfDigest comments, "the best feeling driver of bunch"  type of thing.

I am happy to give my feedback. That said most every club is high quality and subjective feedback from me is that unless I don’t like the sound they are basically the same.
