2021 Goals

I may live to regret this (hope not) but with the season in Nebraska likely to begin in a matter of weeks, I've been inspired to try to identify some goals for the season.  

"Big Rock" Goals

- Lower handicap from current 6 to 3 or better

- Break par for 18 holes

- Win my Saturday morning "league" championship.  (This is unlikely, at my handicap it would take a very low round...usually a 13ish handicap shoots an 80 or something like that and that's all she wrote.)

Sub Goals

- Drive the par 4 2nd hole at my home course.  It's 330 but a bit downhill, and if the tees and the wind are right it's possible for me...I've been hole high before but right.  Same goal for the 310 yard par 4 17th...it's a dogleg but requires a pretty high ball flight to carry a large tree.

- 25 putts or less in a round

I know the big rock goals are lofty, but I don't see the point in setting goals that aren't really aspirational.

Anyone else care to share?

I like you goals but the sub 25 putts sounds really tough unless you miss every green. How does that tie into your playing better golf?

Yeah, fair.  I suppose I could meet that goal simply by having a really good day chipping and not actually putting all that well.  

Really the goal is to putt better overall.  I don't have Arccos, but I may have access to a putting average via the Grint.  Bottom line is I'd like to putt better but maybe need a better metric.

Mine this year is to get my handicap from 24 to 18 and to possible break 90 for the first time.

Going to break my goals into achievable goals and stretch goals. 

Achievable

• Reduce handicap to under 20
• Break 90 for the first time

Stretch

• Decrease handicap to 17 or less
• Break 90 consistently (not every time, but at least occasionally)

Based on your work ethic I am thinking your "stretch" goals might not be quite as lofty as you think.  Looking forward to hearing how your season goes.  Keep at it!

Increase my FIR% to 60+ while maintaining my average distance

Increase my GIR% to at lease 65%

Decrease my putts per round average by at least 5/round

Qualify in my flight for the national championship being played at Baltusrol for the amateur tour I play in.

Win my State and Region in the same tour.

Win my League.

Pretty simple for me this year as 2020 setbacks caused my golf game to decline in dramatic fashion. I just want to make a few simple swing improvements and build some consistency again. I still hit the ball well and can shape shots, but my misses have gotten worse and poor course management often compounds the issue. First three rounds of 2020 were 104, 100, and 99.

Also, while I love my new putter, I am still very much adjusting. Over those same rounds, I went 42, 34, & 43 putts... My previous best with my old putter was either 26 or 27 putts and average was 31.

My goal was to get into the 3s for GHIN this year, and my recent 74 has me very close just before the year starts. That one score took me down a 1/2 a point! Crazy.

Goal is to break 100, hell, why not 90!

get my cap at 20 or below

Play in a couple tournaments

Play with some spies

try at least 5 new courses (i hit up 13 total courses last year and got the back 9 of one new one in this year already)

Those are some good goals, very detailed too.  Mine are pretty simple, I just want to play more golf, hit more fairways, hit more greens, sink more putts and have more fun.

I would love to say I want to get back to single digits but I just don’t see that in the cards, if I can get back to playing consistently in the low 80s I would be happy

I’ll just be happy if I make it through the whole year without medical problems cutting into golf. I’d really like to improve my putting. I had too many 3 putts when I had a GIR.

My goals are try to improve Driving accuracy and reduce putts

On the plus side I will be running with Arccos this year so that should help me dial in exactly where i need to focus on. On the flip side a baby due in June will likely decrease my practice time.

60% Fairways accuracy

Goals.... same as always: have fun and try to get better. I doubt I will ever get better. I'm a solid 9 - 10 HC. I'm fine with it. When I stop having fun playing... it's time to take up something equally as frustrating...lol.

My current golf goal is to just hit a club. Hurt my wrist at work Dec 22 2020 and spent two months locked in a wrist brace sitting at home. Just went back to work on light duty 8 days ago. 

Short term. Being able to play. After that I will be working on a grip change and work on being less steep.

General goals:

- get into better golf shape (improving flexibility and core strength, losing 5 to 10 pounds of bad weight).

 

- string together a complete round of sub bogey golf.  More often than not I can have 9 holes of +5 to +8. But I mentally and physically struggle consistently playing 18 holes.
