Golf goals for the year, let's see:

Larger Goals:

Handicap in the 2 index (currently a 4.4) - afraid this may be tough to reach this year.  I had this goal thinking I'd be hitting balls all winter on my Skytrak and staying in golf shape, but an injury halted that.

Break par at least twice - I usually have several 73 - 75 rounds which helps my handicap, but don't birdie that many holes to shoot under par. Typically,  i have a handful of 74's, 77's and 81's to round out my 20 rounds.

Small Goals:

Increase make percentage on putts inside 10 feet (unsure of exact % right now, but I know it's lower than it should be)

Increase up and down percentage on straight forward greenside opportunities

I may live to regret this (hope not) but with the season in Nebraska likely to begin in a matter of weeks, I've been inspired to try to identify some goals for the season.   "Big Rock" Goals

Going to break my goals into achievable goals and stretch goals.  Achievable Reduce handicap to under 20 Break 90 for the first time Stretch Decrease handicap to 17

My goal was to get into the 3s for GHIN this year, and my recent 74 has me very close just before the year starts. That one score took me down a 1/2 a point! Crazy.

First would be to hit my irons better this year.  Just been having consistency issues with them.

But I'm upgrading my irons this year, so I have high hopes for them.

Second would be to consistently shoot in the 80's this year.  Which if my first comes to fruition my scores should be in the 80's

Just need to find an easier course than my home course and i think i have a chance at breaking 90 lol

This was something I discovered. Being newer and not really knowing anything about course/slope ratings to start I then discovered the two courses I play the most have slope rating of 131+ and when I got on a course that was 120 I was amazed at how well I shot.

Love seeing how varied peoples approaches are with goals!

For me this year will be my first full season as a member since being a junior so really looking forward to getting some work good work in. Big goal for me this year is to shoot under par in comp conditions. I have managed it before during casual play on courses that suited me more than my new home course. Hoping I can use this as a start to trying to get to scratch in the following seasons (currently 4.7).

Immediate goal: I want to get below a 7, and average sub-30 putts.

Career goal currently is to shoot even par. Lowest round so far is 75, twice (one was on a par-71 course though).

I have three main goals for the season.

1. Eliminate penalty shots off the tee.  Fairways % is such a misleading stat since a ball 1 yard in the rough can be just as good as middle of the fairway.  What I really need to do is eliminate big misses off the tee that end up in a hazard or punch-out situations.

2. Win my club championship.  Our championship flight is straight up from the tips.  We usually have 8-10 people that either qualify with a sub 5 handicap or choose to step up and play with the big boys.  The last four years I've finished 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, and 2nd.  Last year I had a horrible first round but moved up to 2nd place with the lowest round of any flight on day 2.  Just need to put together solid rounds for both days.

3. Still have fun no matter what happens to goals 1 and 2.

It's not a goal but I also look forward to attending each day of the Ryder Cup.  My course is volunteering as marshals on hole 8 at Whistling Straits.  I'll be working one practice round and two tournament days but attending every day.  Hopefully COVID is under control by September and things can go off without a hitch.

I would like to keep my handicap where it is and not slide in the wrong direction. It was very hard getting here and a bad round or two could hurt.

I would like to get out and play other courses more. Being a member of a club pulls you to playing there to save money and utilize what your membership gives you. But having a course pretty much to yourself every Sunday morning is tough to walkway from to go to a public crowded course that I would have to pay for.

I need to work on my 5 iron or 5 hybrid accuracy. That's my inconsistent distance.

Let's hope that putting this down in writing helps make it real!

Overall:

  • Play more than 20 rounds (and hopefully at least 1 with some new friends from here)
  • Break 80 on 25% of rounds (~15% last season)

Specific (love the Grint stats):

  • Avg GIR > 10 (currently 7.2) - I think a lot of this is mental approach and club selection for me
  • Avg Putts < 31 (currently 32.4) - lag putting needs to improve a lot
  • Avg penalty strokes / round < 2 (currently 3.4) - I've been SO inconsistent off the tee the last few years and when it misses, it's usually a big miss

Lower my handicap to scratch(currently 2.7)
Shoot an under par round (3 even par rounds last year)

How will I achieve those goals?

1) Decrease penalties (currently avg .7 per round)
2) avg 31 or less putts(currently 33.2)
3) increase my GIR% & up & down% (currently 60% & 38%)

And not take my game so seriously when I’m golfing with my wife.

I’m on the edge of breaking 80(had 3 this year, was 1 over after 10 holes last week).

Well, thinking about this for a little bit, I think my goals for this season are as follows:

1.  Lower my handicap to a 3 or better (currently a 5.7).

2.  I would love to break 70, I've never done it before

3.  Enter and finish middle of the pack in an am event.  I've only played in one two years ago and as my first time ever competing, it was an entirely new animal for me.  I was better than half the guys in my opinion and after day 1 I was in the top 50.  I s*** the bed day 2.  Nonetheless, I gained a lot of experience.

4.  Keep working on 100 yards and in
