Bossfan
I’ve been talking to Sub 70 about ordering theirs and what the best setup would be.. After talking Jason a couple of times we’re going to set it up just like my irons but bend it down to fit the gap better between my 3H and 5i. I’ve always put the same shaft as my irons in too but curious on the graphite option and what weight people use. Will try some when everything is open again but wanted a good idea before going into the fitting Quote Driver: Titleist TSi2 10 / Mitsubishi Tensei AV Blue Raw 65 S 3 Wood: Titleist TSi3 15 / Project X RDX Smoke Black 70 6.0 Hybrid: Titleist TSi3 18 / Fujikura Atmos HB Tour Spec Red 7 S 4 Iron: Titleist U500 / Graphite Design Tour AD DI 85 S 5 - 9 Irons: Mizuno 921 Tour / Nippon Modus 3 120 S Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM7 46F, 50F, 54S & 58M / Nippon Modus Wedge 115 Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport Select (2016) / BGT Stability Tour Ball: Srixon Z Star XV
Jchris05
I tried some off the shelf driving irons with graphite in them and couldn’t get the consistency I wanted off the box. So I ordered a sub 70 with my matching iron shaft and it’s been a amazing fairway finder for me
Micah T
Morning, For those who use utility/driving irons, what shaft did you gone for? Same as your irons or something different like graphite and lighter? I have a Hzrdus smoke in my U 510 3 iron: I couldn’t hit it to save my life. Turns out it was 40 grams lighter than my project x 6.0 shaft in my AP3 4 iron. Once I added 40 grams of lead tape I was good to go.Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Murray06 1 Quote Driver - Cobra LtDxLS 3 Wood - Ping g410 LST 2iron - Titleist U505 Irons - Ping i59 Wedges - Vokey Sm9 Putter - Mizuno Mcraft IV
Smellis745
I have done both, but prefer the feel of graphite. I am currently using the Aldila Rogue Black 105 TX in mine and it's probably the most secure club in my bag. RickyBobby_PR
Have always gone lighter than irons. Have done same shaft as irons in lighter weight and have gone with a graphite iron shaft. I prefer the graphite. One could even use a driving iron or hybrid shaft in them. jroot327
I had a 3 iron bent to a 2 iron with the same shaft and head as my gamer irons. I like the consistent feel across the board. I tried to play with some graphite and they were far less consistent than I wanted. DPattGolf
It really depends on how you are trying to use the driving iron. If you are wanting it to just replace a regular iron with a more forgiving head and gain just a little distance then I would go with the same or similar shaft weight and profile to what you play in your irons. If you are looking for it to be more like a hybrid/power club, then I would go with a lighter (and probably graphite) shaft that still has a similar stiffness and bend profile. tbonedavid and Kansas King 2 Quote * Staff Professional* Driver: Stealth Plus+ (7.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Black 6X Tipped 1" 3 Wood: Stealth Plus+ (14.25*) - Fujikura Ventus Blue 7x Tipped 1" Driving Iron: P790 UDI 2 iron - HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX 100 6.5 4 Iron: P790 - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (5-7) P7MC - KBS C-Taper 130 X Irons (8-P) P7MB - KBS C-Taper 130 X Wedges: MG3 Black 50.09 / 55.11 - KBS TOUR FLT 130 X 60* Wedge: High Toe Raw - KBS Tour 130 X Putter: Custom Black ER2 or Custom Black Del Monte Bag: FlexTech Stand Bag Glove: Tour Preferred Glove Ball: TP5X #11 RangeFinder: R1 Smart Rangefinder Instagram: @dpattgolf
Kansas King
I went with a slightly heavier graphite but shorter length to better match my set. It's a good combination that gives me a little extra off the tee but doesn't completely blow up my long iron gapping.
Sevefan
120 gram steel shafts in my irons and a much lighter Recoil in my Srixon utility. I love the Srixon. Finch
I play KBS Tour 120S shafts in my irons, and Ventus Blue 9X in my utility. Weirdly, the Ventus feels kinda similar to the KBS Tours. The (16 degree) utility is the only club I have between my driver and 3 iron, so it has to be versatile - with the Ventus, I can do just about anything I want to with it. It's great from the tee and behaves like a power 3 iron from the fairway.
