fozcycle
In 1998, I had an ice skating accident where I shattered my left wrist. Two years later, four surgeries, a steel plate with 13 screws and an inch of my hip, I decided to try golf again. I got a set of Jazz irons with graphite shafts. Twenty two years later I have Recoils in my irons. They have been my shaft of choice for the last three sets of irons, Hogan Ptx, Cobra F8 & Wilson D7.Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy cnosil, NRJyzr, HardcoreLooper and 4 others 7 Quote Driver: 0311 XF 10.5* w/Project X Cypher 40 gram Senior shaft or 0811 XF 12* w/Evenflo Riptide CB Senior shaft Fairways: 0211 5W & 7W w/ Evenflo Riptide CB regular shaft and Tour Edge E521 9W w/Fubuki HD50 regular shaft Hybrid: None in bag at the moment Irons: Titleist T300 5-PW w/Fubuki MV Senior graphite shafts w/Golf Pride Tour Wedges: Edison forged 49*, 53* and 57* wedges with KB PGI Senior shafts(80 grm). When I was looking at what shaft options I wanted to go with the graphite was where I started and was hoping the mmt in the heavier weights would be an option even if upcharge. Thin2win
Just to add to this conversation about the actual switch from steel to graphite. I did it last year, going from Nippon Modus 105s to Recoils. Honestly, if I didn't know I was swinging graphite, I wouldn't know. From a feel through the swing standpoint, I couldn't tell you a difference. I think with as many good options that are out there, you can find one that feels exactly like you want it to and gives all the performance/comfort benefits. While I don't have any in play experience with composite shafts (yet), my time testing at the range and during fittings has me drawing the same conclusion. I'd go as far as to say that in a blind test, were that practical, very few would be able to tell the difference. I don't feel anything different from a graphite shaft than steel, except maybe a bit less sting on thin or toe shots. Waggling them around they feel just as stiff, if not more stiff, than any steel shaft I've ever played. I do think finding the right fit is important, and that's why it's good to see heavier shafts in the market now. Do you have a local builder? Our local shop will build a club for something like $10 and does a nice job. Like dlow said, the MMT parallels are $60/each retail. Puring will be most likely be a waste on Mitsubishi graphite - their radial consistency is pretty much through the roof based on Russ Ryden's tests over at golfshaftreviews.info. And it looks like the MCC+4s are no upcharge from Mizuno. I'd call up Discount Dan's and ask for a quote on the 921s with whatever the highest resale stock shaft option is. Ask for the grips to be left in box and not installed. That way you get the grips for nothing and can sell the shafts to recoup a few bucks. It's a little bit of work, but would save you $640 right away. Her response was "why wait until you're at the point of having to do it, or having to quit?" I love my wife. Mentioned the experiment 4 years ago... at that time, didn't think I needed to switch, but after a couple months, I noticed my hands, wrists, and elbows felt better. Cory O
I tried graphite on a whim last year and am never going back. Just don't see any reason to go back to steel and if it helps keep the body feeling better then that's all the better. I know the shafts in the M Gloire irons I got are way too light for me, but just got 0211's delivered today with Steel Fiber i95s in them that I was fit for. Getting them out for the first time tomorrow. mr.hicksta 1 Quote 2024 is the year of the short set! NC Golfer
Have the HB3 hybrid irons 65 gram regular graphite shaft and have always played a graphite shaft. Sr golfer here, when is it a good time to go to a lighter shaft? Have my eyes on the 2021 Cobra T-Rail 45 gram shaft.

A different shaft profile could easily be better in a similar weight. If you are having problems getting the ball in the air could be an indication of considering a lighter shaft but in reality the best way to know if lighter or a different shaft profile is better is to get fit. I just learned more about them recently and have also heard that they are one of the best quality graphite shafts out there on the market. Seems like they have a lot of fitting flexibility because they are constant weight (at least the ICWT series are) but also parallel tips, so you can tip trim and hard/soft step on top of that. Middler
Now I’m trying to decide for the same money am I better off reshafting my current irons, or just buying all new irons (with less expensive graphite shafts). I am perfectly happy with my current irons, so that’s not a factor for me. I’m thinking reshafting would be money better spent since I’d have better shafts. Are you going to keep your old irons if you buy a new set or are you willing to reshaft a single club with graphite just to try them out? If you really like the more expensive shafts, I would go that route. What shafts are you considering?
