Different grip styles throughout the set

Has anyone used a different style of grip throughout your set?

I'm thinking of trying this:
wedges - wrap / taper
irons - tour / slight taper (+2)
woods - corded / less taper (+4)

of course they'd all be the same size

I would say that I do; but not by design. I am just lazy and don’t change grips often so I have what cam on the club or something I wanted to try. Maybe is it a problem???? But I would have to change them to see if it made things better.

Nope. Always same. Used Tour Velvet midsize until I switched to the MCC+4 midsize.

So I had a different style in my driver, 3W and then my irons.

Didn't bother me really all similar style, But now that I have found that the Lamkin Sonar is my bread and butter grip I will be swapping everything to that (feels perfect). I am going to play around with size and wraps though. Mid size double wrap in the woods. Thinking standard double wrap for everything else. Going to make my 4/8 iron my test pilots for the standard double wrap and move on from there. We will see.

Saw a video online yesterday saying that some pros do this for more control in the higher lofted clubs and never really thought about it.

I do hate it when my hands slip on the wedges when I'm trying to be precise.

I'm in the same boat. It has not been by design but because I do my own grips there are times where they may be different.

At times I've had different grips, mostly because I've added pre-owned clubs and wanted to try the grips.

I used to play Lamkin Crossline's if I had the option during purchase.  I've used a mid-size MCC+4 that was on a Hybrid I bought, MCC's on some Vokey wedges which I wanted to try anyway, and now I'm pretty sold on the Lamkin Sonar's after using them for Cobra Connect.

I did have a Lamkin Sonar Wrap put on my Ventus shaft when I ordered it, I wanted to compare to the regular Sonar grip.  I could see myself keeping my woods and hybrids with the wrap and regular Sonar on my irons/wedges.  They both feel pretty good to me.  More testing to come on that front.

I've never experiments with adding more layers of tape.  I have small ass hands anyway and should probably try and undersize grip before I start adding layers of tape! haha

So my own also, there is something satisfying about the process IMO

So styles no, different tape play underneath, yes. Different colors? Hell yes.

Back before I actually went and figured out by best grip size I used to play midsize in woods, standard in everything else. The fun part was when Lamkin had the old iLine and Rel 3Gen grips that came in a variety of colors I would play one color in the woods, one in the irons, and one in the wedges.

In all honesty, if I get away from Arccos and move to shotscope after this season, I might do that as well with some Iomics.

Not intentionally - I have in the past used grips that I felt where easier to grip on my longer clubs but I've given up with that - Florida in the summer is hot, you're going to sweat, you just need to change gloves more frequently.

Of course putter is the exception, I do use a different grip for that.  I'm sure that pros use different wraps intentionally.

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

I’ve had a few different grips by accident, buy new wedges or a new driver and they may not offer my preferred grip. It’s an interesting concept

  • 2 weeks later...

From Driver to LW I play the same grip through out my set (BestGrips Augusta Microperf).  I originally installed a wrap of duct tape then double sided tape and installed with grip solvent.  I now use 3 wraps of painters tape and install with grip solvent and a bit of contact cement and use compressed air.  This method will prove easier to remove the grips when a club falls out of favor and I want to replace it.  The grips can last for several years so I want to repurpose them.   My putter grip is a Salty Mid-Plus cork grip.
