Radio silent

I'm going radio silent for a couple of days, we're leaving for Florida in about 30 minutes. If it's your birthday, I'll get you on Sunday.

We ended up with a mini van. Enterprise had either an Equinox or a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the trunks in those were about the same size as Chanin's Seltos. I said to the guy we have a set of clubs and 3 bags, so he said I'll give you a mini van for the same price...they had heaps of them.

So, the Griswold's are off in the family truckster!

Safe journey. We do the round trip a few times a year now. Pretty easy, except for that da** Atlanta traffic regardless of the time you go through it. Wave and honk as you pass exit 240 on 75 in Florida. See you next week.

Well, we made it. The mini van was actually pretty pleasant to drive down and got 25.2mpg at a sustained 75mph.

We did have an issue when we rolled into Savannah after 11 hours on the road. The hotel where we had booked said they didn't have our booking and they had no rooms available. I booked through booking.com, so I called them, they rang the hotel and were told the same thing. However, what happened is that the hotel overbooked their rooms and were then able to say that they didn't get our booking. This was confirmed by someone else and the fact that I have an email from the hotel confirming my booking.

I rang booking and they got me a room elsewhere that was almost twice the price and not as good a place, but it was the only thing available. Booking have already refunded me the difference between the prices.

I ended up going to bed last night at about 8.30, I was exhausted mentally.

Glad you and your family are here safe and sound. Was wondering why Savannah - but then realized you're probably coming down 71 to 95 - we always come down 75, it's always less 'eventful'.

2 days and 1200+ miles we're back in dreary NE Ohio. This weather sucks! No dramas with the hotel and I think if we drive again, that will be our stopping point each way. It was the Hampton Inn and Suites in Columbia just off 75. The staff were great and the rooms very clean. They suggested a place for dinner and it was also great.

I'm taking the Griswold van back this morning. I think I averaged 26.7mpg for the entire trip which is a lot better than 18.5 in my truck.

Glad to hear you got the Truckster (and occupants) back in one piece. It was great seeing you again, and if Australia doesn’t work out next year maybe we’ll get over to Ave Maria.

Welcome home - glad your journey was uneventful. Weather here mid 80's light to medium breeze. Turning on the A/C shortly.
