Recoil v Steelfiber v MMT iron shafts?

... Looking through several boxes for my old Aldila Tour iron shafts (I may have thrown out) I was a little surprised by how many iron graphite shafts I have played. Aldila Tour/TGi, Graphite Design GAT and Recoil 95's not included.

im excited to put in play i95CW R flex shafts when i build my new set of irons. going to play i95CW R straight in and use the "spinner" wedge shaft concept in my 54 and 58. that is going one flex up but double soft stepping. my current 54 and 58 that i will be playing along with my new iron set is already setup with this concept. i95CW S 8 iron shafts in those two wedges.

I'm glad your elbows are doing ok now that you are playing graphite shafts in your irons. I'm also glad my tendonitis in my left elbow went away years ago. At $55 to $60 a shaft for those Steelfiber shafs it would cost quite a lot to re-shaft all my irons and wedges. I have been playing golf for 21 years now with no injuries of any kind, Knock on wood. so I'll stick with playing S flex steel shafts for now. I hate to think what it would cost if I had to have my clubs re-shafted and I didn't do the work myself.

All my clubs are custom built with aftermarket shafts that have been spine and FLO aligned for max performance every swing.

True Temper doesn't publish the below chart anymore for Steelfiber, but its interesting to look at. While I understand there is no standard in flex in the industry and that there are other factors beside swing speed as it relates to choosing a flex, I do know many fitters that use swing speed to help fit flex.

The Steelfiber i95 say 100 at a minimum and above.

... Nice chart. The above is for stiff flex and exactly what I found. Too stout for my 95mph swing. I am playing i95 r-flex and to me they feel and perform very similar to any s-flex shafts I have played. According to the chart r-flex works up to a 103 SS. The missing ingredient of course is how you swing at your current SS. Someone with a short, quick transition and more of a hitter will need a stiffer shaft than someone with a smooth swing and a gentle transition.

If that is the only thing they are using it’s not a fitting. Swing speed gives a good fitter a starting point along with what the golfer currently has in their bag along with the feedback of what they like/don’t like and what they are trying to achieve.

The good fitters I know don’t even consider swing speed in any of their evaluations they are watching the golfer swing in warmup, possibly asking questions to get to understand miss, flight and what the golfer wants. They use what they see and hear to pick s shaft to start with. I would walk out of a fitting if the first thing a fitter got into was swing speed

For what it's worth, I got fit into i95 Stiff and I hover right around 105. Can get up a little higher if I step on it, but sub 110 still.

If anyone's looking for something that felt less stout for me, see if you can try the Mitsubishi OTI shafts. They felt a lot softer in the tip. Almost felt like going from a "normal" driver shaft to Autoflex.

I have been playing and fitting customers with Recoil's for years. I am currently hitting Recoil SmacWraps, and I love UST products. However, try all major brands when you are fit and see what's best for you.
